Police Shootout on Video

This is a shootout caught on tape. In the video, you'll see an officer get shot (I think in the arm) I believe he ends up being OK. Before this particular shootout, the gunman killed a female deputy from close range with a shotgun.

My question is, why didn't these two officers who are exchanging gunfire shoot the propane tanks? I mean, I've seen videos on youtube of what happens if you shoot a propane tank and it wouldn't have been pretty. Either way, they killed the gunman.

The explosion might have taken out the gunman, however the metal fragments of the tank would act as shrapnel and would shred the cops, the camera crew, and anyone who was unfortunate enough to be nearby.

Nah. I've shot and destroyed many propane tanks in my day. Unless you've got them sitting in a fire, they don't really explode like that. Even in a fire, they just shoot out like a rocket. Since these were strapped to the trailer, I doubt it would've done anything at all. Puncture and leak most likely. (unless it somehow made a spark, but this isn't Hollywood)
