Depends on whether or not he wants to go to New Orleans. Because if we waive him, any team can claim him. Maybe he'd prefer to go elsewhere. And in that case, he'd just want the guarantee tomorrow. But he has $17M reasons to accept a delay rather than be waived. Maybe no one offers him $17M and he has to sign somewhere for the MLE, or a portion of it.

The ethical problem is relating to Favors and not NOP. If it was just NOP then I’d agree, but they’re basically pulling Favors off the market as of Sunday because the trade, only to waive him after the cash dries up.

No. The Lakers are just holding back the AD trade so they have enough cap space to sign Kawhi. Once he makes his decision, regardless of where he chooses, they can then complete the AD trade.

In the same way that someone could have swooped in and signed Durant, Irving, DLo or Kemba, yes. People are as good as there word, and until last off-season (with the exception of DeAndre’s first Dallas fiasco), committing to a team was as good as ink on the paper. Maybe that culture changes over time, but for now it’s a huge no-no.
