My only concern for the Jazz with Trey Burke is not his quality but his game style.
Honestly, I skipped a large portion of the last season and didn't even follow the NBA darft. But this became an opportunity for me to know Burke better. After the darft, I am consistently trying to catch with the NBA and the Jazz basketball. So, first I watched Burke's SL games and when I was disappointed with what I saw, I watched all of his pre-draft videos and highlights, and then when I liked what I saw, I watched several full games of him with Michigan.
So for me, Burke is obviously a very good PG and will be even better. But it still surprises me that there is almost a consensus about him being the future long term PG of this team already. And some people base this idea on him being a great facilitator and a first-pass type of a PG. It's simply not true from what I've seen from him. He is still naturally a scorer/shooter PG but with a decent/solid success at trying to be also a good distributor offensively. This point is important, he has a very good passing ability and he is willing to use it to balance his game. But this doesn't change his natural feelings about the game.
I always voiced my opinion that this team needs a true, natural passing-first PG for the long term. A la Stock, Nash, Rondo, DWill, Rubio etc. Obviously, while there aren't many of these pure PGs around to grab (there wasn't one in the darft for sure), I'm more than OK with Trey Burke and I especially like his efforts for evolving his game towards a more balanced offensive presence. Very few players succeed on this subject, actually many PGs even fail miserably.
Anyways, needless to say, Trey Burke is hell of a reason to make us waiting the new season avidly. He is a great mystery at this point and I'm quite eager to see how it will be resolved and can't wait for it.

FWIW Bill Simmons called Burke the "safest" pick in the draft. Essentially, he had the lowest bust factor of any player which was quite a compliment. Now Cleaves was a great point guard in college, but he did not have an offensive game close to Burke. His shooting was particularly weak. If an NBA defender can safely back off you, then its not going to end well for you. Case in point Kendall Marshall. Cleaves also showed no improvement from his sophomore to senior year, a good sign his potential was capped pretty low. GMs generally agreed, as he wasn't taken until 14.
Well Chris Paul averaged 6.6 assists per game his last year of college.. Burke averaged 6.7...
Kemba on the other hand averaged 4.5 assists per game his last year of college... Rondo's was 4.9......................
Draw your own conclusions from those stats...

If there is a point that I have to conclude from all this, I'd say, "college assist numbers don't mean much."
Burke was the 11th by the way with that 6,7 assists per game number. And MCW averaged 7,7. Why we did chose Burke then?
Well I'm just saying don't count Burke out yet... if Rondo averaged 4.9 assists in college and still manage to average 11+ assists in the NBA, then why would you assume Burke can't do the same....
I guess my point is it's too early to tell................................
I'm not counting Burke out.
But it's not about numbers, it is his game style. I think I presented my opinion fair and square about him in my post. Maybe it's my English.
