Pop kicking Donald's ***

The ignorance about the value of globalism remains. But ya, I guess it is theoretically possible to base your nationalism on certain national ideals. Kind of like the type of proto-nationalism that existed in ancient Rome, which was built around the superiority of urbanized civilization, and lacked any clearly defined ethnic elements.

That kind of "soft" nationalism still scares me. We even saw elements of it in Bernie Sanders. Immigration and economic isolationism come to mind. Once immigration becomes a bad it isn't a big leap for immigrants to become a bad. It seems to me that we are increasingly turning away from a country that is willing to reinvest in and re-imagine itself in favor of a country that is constantly looking for a boogie man.

It completely ignores what fueled the U.S.A.'s rise in the 20th century. We don't become the world's dominant superpower without globalism. I don't know why that isn't completely ****ing obvious to people.

But that would mean admitting that we are dependent on other countries and messes with the right wing narrative of "American Exceptionalism" and how we really took off post WWII because we are so awesome and cuz god.

Seriously, it takes some big time swallowing of one's pride to admit that the rise of the American middle class in the post WWII decades wasn't due to American genius but more to a combination of factors. Namely, zero competition from Europe and 100 percent dependency on American goods, products, and services and zero competition from China, who had yet to industrialize. However, this changed in 1972. By then, Europe had recovered and Nixon's visit to China began the process to liberalizing China's economic system.

Fast forward to 2017, Europe is as industrialized as we are and China/technology has taken over manufacturing.

The truth of the matter is that we live on a planet of finite resources. In the decades following WWII, Americans did not face much competition for these finite resources. It's 2017, and American workers are competing against those on a global scale unlike never before. Sadly, many Americans still haven't caught the vision and still think that there's a future in manufacturing and coal. Adapt or perish!

To make matters worse, misinformation is very strong. Kansas is a microcosm of idiot republicans and how they vote against their own interests. Governor Brownback slashed taxes for the rich and raised fees, which were regressive and hurt the working class the most. Then salaries for government workers were frozen, hurting the public at large. Services were slashed, hurting those who use government owned roads, schools, and health care facilities. Schools even closed down early due to lack of funds. An intellectual black hole formed, where anyone who could get out, fled. Kansas now is seeing record deficits, failing infrastructure, and a terribly slow growing economy since the wealth has been funneled to the top.

Likewise, how many idiots in the rust belt voted for Donald Trump and would've seen their Obamacare or Medicaid go away had Trumpcare passed? I just read of thousands of coal miners losing the funding to help them retrain in technology fields due to GOP slashes in funding. And how many working class bums who voted for Donald will be hurt financially with losses to mortgage deductions and 401k contributions if Donald's tax cut for the rich goes through?

The book, "What's the Matter with Kansas" https://www.amazon.com/Whats-Matter-Kansas-Conservatives-America/dp/080507774X
is a fantastic read.

Americans need to learn about their own history and get their egos out of their own way to understand basic economics.

Globalism most definitely led to the rise of the middle class in the post WWII years. And if we understand it correctly, can lead to a prosperous future too.

It's just easier to demonize brown people, call them racists, and make unreal and vague promises that you have no intention of actually keeping to win votes. Then, once you're in office, pass legislation to enrich yourself but keep tweeting about how awesome the working bums should feel due to the record stock market. The idiots who vote Republican won't notice the disconnect between the stock market and their own paychecks. They won't understand the difference between labor and capital

We weren't discussing fundamentals on jazzfanz though. I have no comment on that and don't care to discuss it. We were discussing the reasoning that your co workers vote for people. I don't think basing your vote on who other people think you should or shouldn't vote for is a good way to do it. I think you should vote for who you think is the best candidate or who you like most.

It would be like if people on social media were constantly telling quin Snyder that he should start gobert and never play neto at the center position. And then quin starts neto at the 5 and starts giving gobert dnpcd's just to spite people. What good would that do quin Snyder or the jazz? (What good would voting for an unqualified, stupid piece of **** that they don't like do for your co workers)

Pretty dumb.

Terrible example. Political protesting is nowhere near the same thing as a coach not doing his job just to **** on his fan base. Political protesting is an important part of the democratic process.

Sometimes people need to vote against their purist stances just to make DC realize their vote matters. You know who would best serve themselves by voting for republicans even though they generally don't align with the agenda? African Americans. Know why? Their vote currently does not matter. Democrats know they have their vote by and large, so they can exploit them and do nothing for them. Republicans know they won't get their vote so they don't matter much in voting block concerns. What do you think would happen if African Americans suddenly started voting republican? They would start getting their asses kissed by both parties. What do you think would happen in Utah if we suddenly started voting democrat? Same thing.

Protest voting isn't cutting your nose off to spite your face.
