What's new

Portland Trailblazers @ OUR Utah Jazz TODAY at 1900.

Sweet what about last second on the 24 shot clock where CJ may have shot a desperation shot? You can't just say the percentages should be numbers they shouldn't. In either case the raw percentages don't tell the full story. CJ takes more threes (and more shots as you've noted). CJ's true shooting percentage is 59% Trey's is 55.6%. CJ is doing that with increased volume and generally the more shots you get the lower it goes.

I am not comparing them over one game... just simply stated Trey has never had a game like CJ had last night. Yes he's had 30 point games against teams like minny, detroit, and one good one against SA... they were never that efficient though. CJ controlled the game and deliberately got almost exactly what he wanted all night. It was just one game though I get it.

Your statement that Trey has not had freedom and intimating that we don't know what they would look like in the other team's system is pretty silly. They ran pick and roll to death and crushed us on it... I'm pretty sure Trey gets to run PnR plenty. i don't think burke sucks, but CJ is better. Last night was part of the evidence.

How many double digit assist games does McCollum have? Shooting is not the only part of the game that matters. Trey has had a 15 assist night therefore CJ has never had a game like Trey. Neither that fact or yours makes either better or worse than the other. AS I point out they have differing skillsets.

Again this isn't a Trey vs CJ discussion. This started because someone(I believe you) said imagine if McCollum was on this team. My point was he's not going to average 23 even in the first 4-5 games because he has to share shot attempts with Favors, Hayward, Burks, Hood, and to a lesser degree Gobert,Booker, Ingles and Neto. He that's not something he has to worry about with portland. His averages aren't better than Trey's yet Trey isn't getting those shots what makes you think McCollum gets those shots this season? The idea is he's a better shooter but the stats don't agree with that.

Trey doesn't have the same freedom that McCollum has this year, again not sure how that's debatable. Trey's not getting the mins or shot attempts. Not a knock on CJ he's doing well with the freedom, but it's 5 games.

As far as last second shots that's an actual attempt in the half court and while more difficult than shooting with time it's not nearly on par with a half court heave. Please don't tell me that's the case you are trying to make?

And my point is that if we had CJ instead of Trey we would be better. I don't friggin care that Trey had a 15 assist game once. CJ is a combo guard and Trey is a shoot first point guard.

CJ started his career off with some injuries but was pretty good last year on a team that had a lot of options. Pretty sure he could figure out how to play with the amazing offensive options we have.

The acid test is this... Porty calls and offers CJ for Trey. Do you accept? He may not average 23 with us, but I'll bet he'd contribute more than Burke.

Blazers call and offer CJ for Burke and we wouldn't be able to say yes fast enough. We'd figure out how to get him shots later.
No brainer. Is someone saying otherwise?

Whether who is the better player remains to be seen. These are third year players none of them having a history of success in the league. I'd say right now McCollum is probably the consensus better prospect. Which didn't have anything to do with my original point.
