Potential Trade Possibilities

I don't think the Favs signing is a mistake per se. The fit in the rest of our moves is questionable. The issue is... say Dok is ready next year. It would make a lot of sense to trade Favs for no returning salary... I think he has a good year and would net something okayish in a trade like that (say a second or two and no returning player). Will DL make the heartless Danny Ainge style trade and send him to NY or Sacramento (insert whatever team you want)?

So I think we will allocate 40M to a starting center and 12M to backups (favs+Dok)... that means you lose other stuff.

Your initial post is I think correct. We are going with minimums next year unless something amazing appears.
It’s not even a knock on Favors. The allocation of resources is just so bonkers given the opportunity costs in context.

We really just need to sign RHJ. It's so much more simple than all these trades and other moves. Just sign that guy and ride in on my WCF guarantee.
Right and like I outlined... there is an opportunity to squeeze him for some value next year. May not lead to him being very motivated but maybe you can keep him Non guaranteed this year to hold him accountable.

The trade stuff requires the "GM-Sex Machine" and DL is all about missionary.

Right... and I think that can be corrected... but likely won't. I just wouldn't call it a mistake yet. I also saw our offseason needs as perimeter defense and backup center. I'm super high on Shaq obvi... so if you told me we got Shaq and Favs at a total cost of $11M-ish combined I'd have given it a thumbs up. We got lucky on Shaq but still pulled the trigger so I will award full credit. Its like guessing right on 4-5 multiple choice questions on a test... you still filled in the bubbles. (I had an epic test where I went 10/10 on guesses in a multiple choice test in college).

I also am giving some credit here for Forrest and Hughes. They looked more confident and competent than any rookie we have brought in since Don. Very limited sample size and they don't have DM's upside but i think they have given us reason to have a little hope. We will see how the year goes but I think at some point we can pencil those guys in as contributors next year

Can we lock this thread and keep it to only HH, Numb, Infection and myself. Some of the best discussion on this board in weeks has been in this thread.

I think he fits what we are trying to do right now. It was only a few pre-season games though. We want to get up and down the floor and shoot a ton of threes... he will help with that and has been shooting well.

Having to replace him with a minimum guy next year sucks but we should know what we have in Oni and have an idea on Hughes/Forrest. So there are some replacements in the pipeline at least.

I'm trying to look at our offseason a little differently and not be such an analytical *******... so ignore the costs...

- We re-signed Donovan.
- We re-signed Rudy.
- We offloaded Ed and TB and Added Favs.
- We kept JC.
- The second year young guys look good.
- Udoka is not the guy I would have picked... maybe he's Capela and a great addition... he's certainly not TB... I mean he killed a man in pre-season.
- Shaq
- We are healthy coming into the year.

Its not super sexy but its very good. The values and efficiency is the issue and that stuff may not matter too much if we are efficient in other ways.

I agree. It's been a very good offseason. I don't like the particulars, but I like the team. If that makes sense.

I don't like how we got rid of Davis, TB and 2nd rounders, but I love that we have Favors in their place.
I don't like Rudy's contract size, but I'm so glad to have him back.
JC's deal seemed big, but now seems fair.

I really like this team. I don't think Conley will work long term as a spot up shooter who we need good defense from, but maybe he works out.

Its like in golf... my old man would tell me you "count your strokes from the hole back". I'd out drive him by 100 yards and three putt for a bogey... he'd chip in from the fringe for a par. We got an ugly par but its a par.

Drive for show
Putt for dough

My old man is a world class **** talker... his favorite line as we drive to our tee shots is "remember... sometimes those long drives don't mean ****". Would always get in my head.

Hahaha. Golf is such a fragile game. It's so easy to get in a guy's head. Not like they can out hustle or muscle you out the next time down the court. Every single shot matters.

My idea of a really good off-season was Udoh, Shaq, RHJ, and OPJ. I knew the last wouldn't happen, and even though the money situation is ridiculous with how everything unfolded, the actual roster changes are solid. I preferred Udoh only because he's giving you more rim protection with less everything else but at a drastically different cost, but Favors provides some real value (when you take the $ out of it). I said that signing Shaq turned this off-season from advancing to first on a hit-by-pitch to a stand-up triple. That last part may be a bit of hyperbole but I think the hit-by-pitch is spot-on. Maybe more of a slide-into-third or stand-up double where you start rounding second before returning. Signing RHJ makes this a solid triple. Basically, we needed to improve the backup 5 (not hard to do) and improve perimeter D. Before Shaq, that was a huge issue. Now that we've done those two, we need another 3/4 guy who can do perimeter but body bigger guys, and he's still out there. I think the likelihood of him being better, and more utilized, than Morgan is pretty large. But I get why we like to squeeze the value out of the guys we already have on the conveyor belt. If you and your dad spent the past few years restoring a car, it doesn't have the same meaning even if someone just came by with the same or better car than you're fixing up and just gave it to you. But we're not in this for feel-goods. We need something that will move our *** from point A to point B, and right now that hobby car can start up, but it needs work and isn't even registered.

But keeping Clarkson is good. Imagine last year when we had Exum, and if you were told next year he'd be swapped with Lou Williams.

Honestly this was probably our best offseason ever. We signed two all stars and a likely sixth man of the year to long contracts. If you look at it from that perspective we really have no reason to complain.

And Daddy Favors. . .

And I have been a Conley doubter but I like what they are doing with his role and that we have added size/defense in other spots that might hide his deficiencies. I think we could do better but many of these trades are worse or neutral... to have a big disruption for a neutral move will have a negative effect.

Even the Porter deal... sorry @infection has some downside risk. He's a bigger injury risk imo. I'd do the deal because of the financial impact and bet on his health... but if they want us to add a first they could **** off. Seconds or fruit baskets are fine... but I don't see why they pay more for a guy they need less without some incentive.

The hate has gone way to far on Conley. He still gives this roster something good and in a more appropriate role should be more effective. He's also a guy that has up and down years... I think he could have an up year. If Joe, DM, or JC miss time Mike will be crucial. I think too many on this board look at him like Nic Batum... the washed worthless big contract... he's not that at all.
For what we gave up for Conley and pay him versus his performance, the hate is legit.

If you had a half brother from your dad having an affair, does it make sense to hate your brother for your dad's actions?
As a man with many half siblings because of a dad that was an alley cat... the answer is you and your brother love each other and make fun of your dad.
