Potential Walker Trade Discussion

I just reject that completely. If the Jazz trade Walker, it's because they got a deal too good to pass up, not because they are worried about him winning too many games for them. The Jazz havent made a single move that has signaled they are desperate to bottom out at the expense of talent.
They let Dunn walk for a second round pick swap and would trade either JC in a minute if they didn't have to pay something for the right to do so. They punted on using FA dollars for anything other than journeymen and washed vets. lol. Desperate no... but if they got a good enough offer that normally they would pass up... I could see them taking it in an effort to drop a few extra games.

He's our 3rd most impactful player. Going from 25-30 minutes of Walker to 20 minutes of Eubanks+Flip (with Collins picking up the extra minutes) is fairly significant imo.

Not sure how much weight to give it in this evaluation but it would certainly be part of the motivation.

I agree that Kessler punches above his weight as far as wins go and that this should be a part of the consideration, but I highly doubt the FO is gonna take a bad deal to get worse. I don't think there focused on tanking nearly as much as we are here....for example, everyone said we shouldn't trade Lauri because we can tank by trading Sexton/Kessler. That ain't happening right now.

Ainge has obviously pivoted to tanking two years in a row, but he's waited until the last second to (presumably) get the best deal. He can always change his strategy, but if he keep his strategy consistent he won't do those tanking trades until the last second even if it loses lotto balls.

Dunn is not talent.

I'm not saying take a bad deal. If there was something that was fair or close to what they think his value is but maybe not the normal Ainge "Make Me Move" price.

I think value-Danny only trades Walker if he gets great value back. Im not sure he cares that much about pick floors and such.

The jazz apparently rejected 2 firsts for Kessler straight up from NY. So it would have to be a good pick(s) + a good player.

What about a couple of Pick Swaps? I think it would take a lot. Hawkins can shoot the shart out of the ball though.

Also, I really don't see Ingram coming to Utah in any deal unless we get assets doing it. It's weird timing. If we give up Collins, Kessler for Ingram and Hawkins AND 2 pick swaps, we get better for sure... but why?

I was driving around yesterday and some dude on National Sports Talk Radio said Kessler is no longer in the Jazz long term plans. So if that's true does that mean he gets traded today, before camp, at the deadline or in some future deal?

What about something like

Kessler
Collins
Svi

For

Ingram
Hawkins

That would save NO like 8 mill. They get a center and a Big. I figure a first might have to be added.

I hope we keep Kessler. If he starts then I also hope we start Hendricks so we have two capable defenders - I think that will help Kessler from being overwhelmed.

We do want to lose. Trading Kessler helps with that and he has market value. We would probably have to trade one of Sexton, Clarkson after that.

The rumor that's out there seems like old news to me. Pincus (the guy everyone's basing the rumor on) discusses rumors earlier in the offseason, and doesn't clearly indicate that whatever sources he's using are more recent than that.

I think Pincus is saying this now, largely because he wanted some buzz around the trade proposal he put out in this "dead" time of the offseason.

So (unless I see anything that clearly indicates there's something more recent), I'm regarding this as engagement farming based on an old rumor that the Jazz seem to have put to bed a month or two ago.

This is just Pincus trying to gain some attention. The jazz will trade Kessler if the offer is too go to pass on but otherwise they have no problem with him being a core piece for them.

This is spot on. The only place I hear of tanking is on this board, not from anyone associated with the Jazz. Tony has talked about developing young talent but this year appears to be no different from the past two years. Hardy will play his best talent and the young uns will need to earn minutes. They may do another dump at the deadline but any team serious about tanking does not wait for Feb. We may be bad enough this year that it wont matter but there is no sign that we are moving talent to be worse.

Organizations rarely come out (or have their chosen mouthpieces) come out and say “WE ARE TANKING.” Almost never. The language usually used is “developing young players.”

The Jazz have also tanked their asses off down the stretch two years in a row, so we should maybe not pretend that they’re above it.
I wasnt say they are above tanking, but they arent going to get rid of young talented players to lose more games.

I think it's basically the same as the last two years, just that they are getting progressively younger in that 3 year stretch.

I think Clarkson is the next domino to fall and it likely won’t be until trade deadline. At that point, they move Sexton to 6 man and Cody to starting 2. They’ll need intel on how Keyonte, Tay and Cody are gelling around Lauri.
