Well, we will see how Memo adjust to the new teammates and maybe new role of him. There is one thing I know: Memo will not say "I'm the starter, period". you know what I mean.
I think we cannot compare the efficiency of Millsap/AJ duo to Memo/Boozer combo, that would be unfair, because there are lots of new faces on this team and some of them play crucial mins and roles. We will be able to get reliable statistical or different kinds of evidences, outings which may help us make better comparisons a couple of months later, IMO. I see lots of struggles, which we would rarely see with the other combo, in Jazz offense when Millsap and Al play together, but those are surmountable, can be overcome by better understanding of the offensive sets, processes and better understanding of the playing styles of other players during adjustment period. The good thing is the Jazz have been able to win ballgames and surprisingly to execute the offense much better in crunch times, which undeniably proves that there is some progress, strides being made. You have to love "6 assists" from Al Jefferson, whose assist average before was just 1. He, I sincerely hope, will get better playing as a multidimensional player, focal point of offense. There is one thing I'm concerned with: Paul and AJ were dominated by Josh (3-4) and Horford (more of a PF), one of the most undersized frontcourts in the NBA. This is not a good sign considering that our biggest and maybe only problem in the West is Lakers and their super long, athletic and versatile bigmen. We have lots of games to watch to see how it would work against real contenders against WEst, though. Also, rebounding, actually getting "net" rebounds, something Carlos had done a great job of, needs to get better.
AS for Memo's role, I really cannot predict anything. I know for sure that Memo will be happy to play with Al Jeff and Millsap, instead of Carlos, who has lots to do with defensive inefficiency of Okur. I mean, how can "help Memo, help Paul, the matador thing aint working" attitude of your supposedly or self-claimed "leader of the team" help you? We have seen that in order for this system to be efficient and effective, court spreading, floor spacing and inside-outside balance is very important. What Memo brings to the table is a lot more and different than what a regular shooter SG/SF can bring. Okur can play 4-5 and with both of Millsap and Jefferson, Evans maybe even with Fes/Elson. This brings a lot of versatility and flexibility to our frontcourt.
