Preseason 2014: Suns v Jazz Game Thread

I have the sneaky feeling that Dante won't play more than 15MPG this season. It feels like Quin doesn't trust him.

To start you are probably right. Quinn is known for developing players so I'll trust the gameplan, but I think we see him playing 20-25 by the end of the season.

How can you trust a guy who is averaging about 6 TOs per 40 minutes, and is shooting 35% from the field? You simply can't have a guy like that if you're trying to win games. He's not a shooter, he's not a scorer, so his value is in his ability to facilitate and make plays for teammates, and if you have an assist to TO ratio of 1:1, that just isn't going to get it done.

You are right. He simply sucks and should not get any time. Bring back Corbin.

Until he can cut down on his TOs and become a better playmaker, in tight games, if you're trying to win, you have to sit him. Tonight, in his 10 minutes he had 3 TOs and 0 assists. You can't have that in addition to his inability to get his own points. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Hayward with 24 points on 12 shots, 5 rebs, 3 assists and he's a -10. +/- is such a weird stat on a one game basis. And by weird, I mean ridiculous.

At the same time, we have to develop our top-5 choice and work for the future. The wins this year don't mean a whole lot, but player development sure as hell does. I'm not saying we have to start him or coddle him, but he shouldn't be benched either.

This is a great point. Snyder is going to have to pick his spots with him perhaps early on, and then ideally as he improves, he can be a guy Snyder can actually rely on even in close games.

Yep, we will have to find the balance between short-term goals and long-term objectives this year. Also when we say that Quin has had success with developing young players, lets be fair about it - he has had success developing young players who were good enough to deserve enough playing time to develop. I don't think anybody would argue right now that Exum deserves more than 15 minutes a game playing time purely on his current level of play. The question is, would Quin be willing to sacrifice some wins in order to get Exum some developmental playing time. And if he's not willing to do it in the pre-season, would he do it in the regular season? I am beginning to be a bit skeptical.

I trust Snyder to achieve that balance. At the very least we know he and his crew will be putting a hell of a lot of thought into that particular conundrum.

He only hit the first 3's of the preseason though...

one interesting thing that absolutely doesn't matter.......... in games when burks takes zero 3 point shots, the jazz are undefeated. In games when he has shot the three ball 3 times or more, the jazz have lost both games.

Don't worry about Dante. He is a year behind. He is going to suck 80% of the time, and be amazing 20% of the time. He probably only plays 10-15 mins per game this year. Give him a year to get his body and mind adjusted to the NBA.

Look at Gobert, and Exum is starting out miles ahead of where Gobert is at.

Like I've said 100 times before, Exum isn't on the team this year. We have some scrub from the DL who wears #11. He will be ok sometimes and suck a lot. Most DL-eagers do.

Exum will join us next year.
