I'm trying to get back into gaming and I think the PS4 is the perfect place for me to get back into it. Seems like it's a great price and you can play any PS games going back..

I haven't "game" for a while since I used to play "Silent Hill" on my PS2? Or was it PS1?

Anyway can someone suggest a similar game for me to get started??? Great storyline, great atmosphere, I do like that suspense, puzzle, who-done-it type, some shooting/fighting is OK too...

The Dead Space series. Possibly the Bioshock series.

First, that opening paragraph makes it sound like you're under the impression that the PS4 will be backwards compatible, but it's not. Or were you referring to the streaming of old games via Gaikai thing? If so, I don't think there's any news on which games they'll have available.

But hey, if you liked Silent Hill, you should try Resident Evil 4. It's more actiony than SH, but it's my favorite survival horror game ever, and it's on almost every platform you can think of. Also, you may have noticed that there's a reasonably large Dark Souls contingent here on JazzFanz, some of us think it might be the best game ever. That one's on PS3, 360, and PC.

Oh, and I made a big list of my favorite games a few years ago (chronological order, oldest to newest). You can check that out:

Anyway if I want Silent Hill but with less gore/zombie/fighting, but more detective work/suspense/atmospheric/dreamlike/exploring type game, what would be the games to look at?

Anyone?

You wanting a game for the PS4 when it comes out? Definitely The Evil Within. Guy that made Resident Evil is making it nd it's lookin like a good survival horror and not an actiony shooter.

The PS4 isn't backwards but it has this thing called Gaikai that will be coming out sometime after the PS4 launches. It will let you buy and play many games that are current gen and last gen and the generation before, so if you want to buy some games when that comes out then you'll be able to.

Edit: Oh, it's an online thing so the games you buy will be digital.

Wow.. nice graphics.. nice atmosphere... but WAYY too much GORE for me..

Anything you can suggest with a similar graphics/atmosphere/ 1-player survival/explorer type game, but without the GORE?

One thing I liked about Silent Hill is there is a nice story behind it... that got me hooked to begin with.
 
Kkk if you really are looking for a detective styled game.... This differs quite a bit from the silent hill/resident evil type games AFAIK, but check out D4 (Xbox exclusive unfortunately)
 
I stumbled across "The Last of Us"? Has anyone played that? Seems pretty nice from what I saw on Youtube.. less gore & more story.

I don't know any survival horror games without much gore but there is a game coming out that's more of a psychological thriller that's called Beyond: Two Souls. I don't know if that would interest you at all tho.

I'm not sure. It's coming out on the PS3 right around the time the PS4 comes out so I'm sure they'll port it over. And with those uncharted games, once Gaikai is done then you'll be able to download them.
