I was thinking more in like of full-on global nuclear war. What are the odds that a few nukes from NK allows Russia to see this as the excuse they need to launch all-out, or does China go off if we retaliate? What are the odds that this ends in a full-on nuclear-winter level global war?

Well I think the chances that China gets involved directly in N. Korea are much, much higher than Russia. China has already stated that if N. Korea attacks first they are on their own. But if America attacks first that they will militarily intervene. I also think it is likely that China intervenes if America tries to invade or capture N Korean ground. Best bet would be to let N Korea strike first and conduct massive air raids and special ops missions into N Korea. No ground invasion to capture territory. Even then it is 50/50 to go nuclear. No telling what N Korea does and how our President responds.

As for Russia. I think the danger with them is not in the N. Korean theater. But in the M.E. and eastern Europe. They could push for gains in Syria, Ukraine and possible the Baltic states. If they push into the Baltics though that would most likely trigger Article 5 of the NATO charter and lead to a NATO/Russian war. That theater would be much more likely to stay non nuclear and be fought with conventional weapons like war planes and heavy armor. I find the threat of nuclear war in this area to be remote.

A new Korean war is likely to spiral wider and pull in other nations. Australia, Japan, S Korea and the Philippines are likely to have some level of involvement.
