Purple & Blues - Utah Jazz at Oklahoma City Thunder: Keys to the Game

Dissagree. If you play him like you're scared he'll eat you alive. You have to play him rough. I've watch probably 25+ thunder games this year. Every team that plays him like any other player he lights them up.
So which player has "roughed up" Westbrook and kept him from lighting it up? I can't think of any such player, but you've watched more OKC games than I have...

We continue to get beat by playoff teams. Not good.

11-18 overall
6-13 vs. West Playoff Teams

The remaining Western Conference playoff teams on our schedule:
@ Houston
@ OKC
Clippers
@ Clippers
@ San Antonio
@ Golden State
San Antonio

Doesn't look good...we'll be lucky to win just one of these games.

Well that game was a depressing kick in the nuts. I am glad the Jazz went 2/3 on that trip, and perhaps the Thunder won't shoot like that every game, but sheesh, that game was had if they just would have focused on Westbrook at the end. Let someone else beat you.

The way you defend Westbrook is not letting him get transition looks. Our transition D just broke down too many times. It felt like he missed every midrange shot he took, which is the opposite from when they beat us in Utah.

Almost every team would be happy splitting road games @ Washington and @ OKC, especially if the one loss was a narrow one where the other team had a historic anomaly of a shooting night from 3.

But keep being you.

Are there any example games though where a team tried to rough him up and he shelled up?
Yes. When he played the jazz before Christmas. And I remember watching Memphis rough him up and the Thunder lost. I've noticed when teams gang up on him he presses harder and looks for his teammates less.

Yeah. Watch teams that play physical. The Jazz played him physical earlier this season and it was very successful.
I remember watching him play a bad stretch against the kings when Barnes was on him.
Also remember when he was playing kyle Lowry and the Raptors kept pressing him and he kept turning it over. John Wall put a ton of pressure on him way early in the year and I remember everyone was saying Russell was using the ball too much cause he looked like a ball hog.
Point is every time a team plays him like he's just another point guard he usually plays incredible the best way to beat the thunder is to force Westbrook to get uncomfortable.

Good news is the three point streak was the difference and the Jazz still wins a 7 game series against the Thunder.

I post, therefore I am.

lmao you are ****ing retarded. Westbrook got ejected early in the 3rd quarter in the one game they lost to Memphis this year (they've won the other two and Westbrook went off).

No he doesnt, you are just being a complete retard and remembering every letdown and not recognizing that teh success rate on these shots is very low for almost every star player in the NBA.

Westbrook dribbled the ball out of bounds in the last 3 minutes of a 1 point game. Is he not a super-star cuz of that?

People keep asking me "why are you still here if you don't root for the Jazz?" Here's why. Deluded gems like these.

I almost wanna make a "quotes from Jazz fans" thread LOL or perhaps one called "The Hayward Delusion"

Westbrook is a superstar and Hayward isn't, it's apples and oranges. yet y'all wanna pay him the same... This dude Cy is pretty much like talking to a 10-year old kid about his favorite player when it comes to Hayward --- he's completely infallible.. It's obscene.

The fact of the matter is Russell willed his team to victory and Hayward FOLDED. This was on display for all to see last night.. They had a 4pt lead with a minute to go the superstar won and the "all-star" folded, simple as that.

Lmfao, you shouldn't talk about delusions then post like this.

Its too funny. I've concluded that people don't seem to really grasp why Michael Jordan was the greatest around here. Hayward certainly isn't judged under that light here by many, he gets a pass!! You'd think if any fanbase (other than Chi) would know it'd be the Jazz, they had frontrow seats for the most iconic moment in NBA history..

People here probably are hoping Hayward is sort of some Peyton Manning type of figure who's a good regular season player that eventually turns the corner.... Thats football tho, apples and oranges.. doing this in basketball is much more difficult for a wide variety of reasons..

QS was trying to hype Haywards heroics in one of the recent games and he couldn't keep the momentum going.. He's not built like that. See Glengarry Glen Ross and listen to the bits about Closers.

Not sure why you put all-star in quotations like he didn't earn it.

I put it in quotations because as it relates to true competition (KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE) it doesn't really mean a damn thing. It's an individual accolade in a TEAM SPORT, that's not the objective...

The objective is to win the last game of the playoffs.. Thats it.. All the other minutia is just a consequence of trying to acheive that.. (or it should be)

I'm sure Hayward feels that way too, I'd cite his preseason comments when the Jazz were getting hyped and he said they haven't accomplished anything.

This lost worries me, the Jazz seem to keep losing to playoff teams every single time or most of the time. I fear they don't have the backbone to make it out of the first round atm. If they do lose, sure as hell it better not be 4-1 exit or I'll gonna be effin' pissed. lol

My reaction to the Joe Johnson pocket pass (though I do think the ball shouldn't have gone to Hayward after he already wilted 2x)...

What an abomination of late-game execution...
