Would you only marry another Mormon? Why or why not?

I ask because I'm simply curious if some or even many of you are so devoted to your faith that you would only consider marriage if it was to another fellow Mormon.

A poll accompanies this. Go.

And please, be intellectually honest. I'm sure the far majority would say no. But are you being intellectually honest? You know who you are as a person and whether you would truly ever propose, walk down the aisle, and father children with a woman who was not Mormon. Again, go.

Why it would be my first choice, I wouldn't say I would be exclusive to marrying a person of my faith.

FYI my wife is LDS(Mormon).

I'm married to another Mormon, but it wasn't a hard and fast requirement for me.

If I had instead found someone I wanted to spend my life with, who wasn't of my faith, it wouldn't have made a difference.

And I'm not the kind of guy with the "I'll convert them" mindset.

I think so. I mean, it's not a big deal, I just wouldn't be able to be allowed to go to the highest kingdom of the celestial kingdom if I didn't since we wouldn't be sealed. I also wouldn't be with my wife in the afterlife since we would be in different kingdoms, I'd be in one she wouldn't be allowed in. But of course, that stuff doesn't matter that much to someone who is LDS.

See, the thing about being a Utah mormon is, if you find someone you want to marry, there's a good chance they're a mormon anyway. Plus, mormon social circles tend to produce a lot of unions. Peter Priesthood isn't finding his chicks at the bar.

Nice try. You obviously don't truly get the idea of marriage beyond this life. You need your wife to be able to be married for eternity. Also, just the fact that you think you would be better than your wife because she is not a member of the LDS Church says you may need to reevaluate your thought process. Things have as much to do with the type of person you are and life you lived as it does with Baptism and the other ordinances that are necessary.

I said yes, but that is just one of many equally important things or traits that may be deal breakers for me.
Just as important is the type of person she is, and if we have the same lifelong goals.
I touched on this a bit in my response to the fake Craig... but being a member of the LDS Church and marrying another member does not mean you "have a guaranteed spot in heaven". There are plenty of non-LDS people I know that are just better people than plenty of LDS people I know.
There is much more to the equation.

When I was dating and looking for a wife, my answer was yes. If I were still single, or to become single again, my answer now would be "not necessarily". I do agree with Bronco that being a Mormon in Utah tends to lead to mostly Mormon on Mormon marriages.

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious so please let me know so I can respond with a bad one line joke.

I was just wondering if you had hooked up with one!

Nope, but all of my business partners are mormon and the stories they've told me (as crazy) lead me to believe they're not, at all. Also, without getting into any details, they've told me what things are not permitted .. with all due respect, no thanks. :)

I'm not Mormon but I probably wouldn't date a Mormon. I guess I need to get out of Utah. All of my friends have had at least one failed relationship because of religion, myself included. Religion sucks. Why can't we all get along?

It doesn't really matter if I'm joking or not. The bad one line jokes will come anyways... fire away.

People here know by now I throw down plenty of bad one line jokes.

I voted yes, mainly for the reason that you have to be married (or sealed) in an LDS temple to reach the highest degree of glory after this life. Granted, just being married in the temple isn't enough, but it's definitely a starting point. It's interesting, my wife's cousin (a Utah mormon) just got married to a guy who isn't. I think that fits with yes and no having the same number of responses at this point.

I'm not a mormon and I wouldn't marry one .. not kinky enough.

Ummm... I can confidently say that some Mormon chick's could kink even you up. They just wait until they're married and then only get kinky with one guy. Obviously, every person, whether Mormon or not, has a certain line that they are not willing to cross but to make a blanket statement that Mormon women are not kinky, well, my experience proves you wrong. I think many times it is the devout husband that holds their woman back from trying new things.

You may be right .. I only made half joking comments because of what my mormon friends say are not allowed .. 'because it can lead to homosexuality' or some bs.
