Pre Game
So this doesn't get lost in game 1 thread, for the game 3 Saturday, the FEF had raised capacity to 55%
So when's the last time this team has a full 2 days off between games, especially with no travel? Their legs might be too fresh
Jazz homers are acting like the Jazz ran into a perfect storm. But... didn't we also start out the game dead in the water, with Jaren barely showing up and the bench (outside of Bane) not doing much better? It actually looks like we have more top end talent -- and a deeper bench (theoretically speaking). Without Donvan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley pretty much have to do everything.
This game has me nervous. Feels like when Blazers came to the grind house after us beating them in Portland and talking smack.., we better come ready in the 1st quarter.
Something to point out is that Mitchell could be quite rusty if he even suits up. It’s been over 15+ games since he played so I could see it messing up their rhythm, if just by a little bit. If the medical staff unexpectedly pulled him that close to tip time then he’s definitely not going to be at 100%
Bogdanovic is still a big problem, need to figure that out, 2nd half the Grizz tried multiple guys on him, and it didn't work. This is an assignment for either SloMo or Jaren
Donovan Mitchell coming back could be a blessing in disguise cause they will focus on getting him his shots and the guys who took and missed a million shots last game won’t get those same opportunities (Jordan Clarkson) I think the true key to success is not allowing Gobert to control the paint defensively. Attack him and force the refs to call fouls, Favors can’t guard JV and he can’t challenge Ja at the rim like Rudy can.
We already know they are better than us, special with Mitchell that is a superstar, but the problemn for them is that we dont care and we dont know better.
JJJ needs to take advantage of the Royce O'Neal matchup, either post him up and use his size or get a lot of quality looks from 3 by shooting over him.
Totally agree and on offense, we should make Royce O'neal beat us.... He is the only outlier as far as shooting on their squad give him the Tony Allen treatment and make him the focal point on offense if he hits 30 and we lose I can take that
This is going to be tough. I expect the Jazz to come out breathing fire and being very physical
Mitchell will destroy us. I have no expectations of any kind.
Friendship with Jazz over. **** everyone not named Mike Conley
1st Half
Well. Two minutes. Two fouls on the bigs.
mitchell has such a punchable face
Well, so much for Mitchell bein rusty
The refs are trying to decide this game before it begins. 2 bs fouls on Dillon and Brooks. Its like you can't breathe in Mitchell's direction.
We're kinda ****ed and it's been only 4 minutes haha
Imagine how good we'd be if we hit a few 3s.
Gobert on Jackson is so great in theory because it forces him out of the paint to respect the 3. But it’s a disaster if Jackson can’t hit that
They have to miss eventually. Don’t they?
Grayson is Ice. Cold.
Gobert spends 90% of the game laying on the ground
**** Joe Ingles. Piece of ****.
Dirty play by Ingles. How on earth does he not got some sort of penalty for that? That’s just inexcusable.
We are playing well but this is why they have the best record... They got shooters all over the place, they got size, they got great defensive players, and they have Donovan. It's going to be hard.
Jazz 7/10 from deep after 12 minutes. That has to stop or this is a blowout.
For the rest Utah do what they do all season. This team can be very dangerous from deep. We have to defend much better. But with the fouls already there, won't be that easy.
3 seconds??? when do they call 3 seconds?
Grayson laying a turd tonight
Ingles moved his shoulder into Brooks, it was super obvious
What’s our record when trailing at the half? I wouldn’t be surprised if we haven’t won more than two games when trailing by double digits at half
Just knew the Jazz were gonna come out breathing fire
Jazz shooting 53% from 2 and 3. They aren't going to lose any series shooting like that.
Every team attacks Grayson immediately btw, dude is a turnstile on defense
Why do our guys have such low B ball IQ when it comes to fouling 3 pt shooters? We must have the most fouls beyond the arc than any team. It's mentally draining.
Man, Gobert gets away with so many shoves and illegal screens. We were losing this one anyways, but still annoying AF
Ingles is a piece of crap, dirty player. Anyway, ‘bout to go play some Mario Kart
Has Rudy Gobert ever thought he’s fouled anyone in his entire goddamn career? That French ***** whines about every ****ing call
I think Donovan's ankle has healed.
Ja’s gonna yam on Gobert at some point in this series and it’s going to be sooooooo satisfying
At this point, I just want us to keep attacking Gobert at the rim. Get him out of the game.
I love that Conley floater....just not against us.
We’re missing layups while they’re banking in 3’s
Ja Morant has 41% of the Grizzlies halftime points
If they could quit calling fouls every 30 seconds it would be great (on both sides)
Can’t beat healthy teams unfortunately
It took Utah hitting a franchise rexord 19 threes and the Refs taking 2 of our best players out for most of the first half to beat us by 12 at home.
Petition to the NBA to remove the 3pt shot from the game who says no?
2nd Half
We back in this fellas
Ja and Brooks are nuclear right now. It's amazing what happens when the refs don't ruin our rhythm with constant fouls.
Maybe Gobert will get tired at some point.
And Snyder staggered Gobert out. Jaren is going to have to play Gobert straight up for a few minutes to start the 4th.
Yeah except their bench is killing our second unit, who going to step up from that group?
Massive qtr. Would have shaken the Jazz's confidence. Now lets bring it home and roll these turkeys
Ja can’t come out right now
43 points for the good guys in the 3rd Q.
Rudy Gobert is a legit MVP contender. He’s doing what he does.
All that amazing play to get back in the game and we give it up in two minutes.
That dunk by Rudy to open the quarter set the tone.
9-0 run just like that. All season long our rotations to start the 4th have been an issue.
Jaren needs a new basketball brain pull Gobert out do not play him in the paint.
Rudy Gobert is playing awesome though.
Getting beat up on the glass
we lost this game at the beginning of the 4th, the terrible lineup lost all momentum.
Gobert and Mike hurt us a lot....+ their bench littteraly kill our bench in terms of scoring.
Clarkson got at least 4 rebounds offensive rebounds I think, cant win this way
Our bench has to give us something or we will get ate alive.
That Niang 3 that broke it back open was because jaren couldn't rebound vs Gobert. It's frustrating sometimes, like he's big for no reason
Jaren has one f Ing rebound in the game. Can’t box out, can’t screen, can’t defend worth crap.
We have to be perfect from now on
Gobert gave JV the business tonight
I feel like you have to let Mitchell be unguardable and take care of everyone else
Yeah, Great comeback, but the Jazz will score over 140 points in regulation. That is not a way to play winning NBA ball. Yes, the Grizz are young, but they have a serious problem defending teams who can hit 3's. At some point, they will have to commit to defending the 3 ball, not just hoping the other team gets cold.
We gotta figure out this Gobert P&R, as JV just isn't able to cover it very well if we're not going to switch. He's not fleet of foot enough to hedge out on the guard and still get back to cover Gobert. Obviously if we switch it, then there's two mismatches, but it's not like Gobert has much of a post game or anything like that.
We won't stop the Jazz drive and kick. They don't drive to score, they drive to kick.
I thought Jaren played... ok. Rudy Gobert went bonkers.
Jaren needs to study Rudy on defense, instead of flailing arms and feet, that guy is vertical nightmare.
Guys, this Jazz team is, by and large, a bunch of mentally weak fake tough guys (not Mike Conley obviously). We can totally steal this series
How are we not guarding the paint and not guarding the three at the same time?
We have to adjust to the Mike/Gobert high PNR if we want to have a chance in games 3+4 at home
Post Game
Couldn’t score on Rudy ... and couldn’t stop him either. No point in playing twin towers since they are using Royce O’Neal as their starting 4.
Rudy Gobert just went Old Testament Book of Mormon on Jonas AND Jaren... we gotta shake things up!
Jordan Clarkson had more points (16) than our whole bench (14).
The Jazz are basically playing all our 4’s and 5’s off the floor. Not a good look!
It’s a single digit game with them shooting an unsustainable percentage from 3. We got this!
Two things the Jazz sure can do: shoot threes and fall down.
Grizz just gotta keep shooting 90% rest of the game and we will run away with it lol
What a damn comeback good lord. Ja is a superstar
Rest Ja bring in brooks and PLEASE BENCH GRAYSON!!!
We hear you nba, we know you want Utah to win
Not excited about this bench vs Ingles and Clarkson together
Triple ice bath for Ja after this one, my goodness.
They didn't quit. Even being down 22. These young Grizzlies got heart. The future is bright with 12 and D Brooks. Imma just enjoy this ride. We're ahead of schedule. The pressure is all on the Jazz imo.
Thoughts and prayers for Gobert. Hope his complete facial reconstruction surgery goes well and the deep elbow contusion that he sustained when Jonas' face rammed it doesn't turn life threatening.
12 points from our bench
We fought hard but came up short. Jazz are hot on offense and our defensive woes killed us. But seriously, **** these refs for calling everything and not letting both us and Jazz play.
I wonder what correlation there is between total fouls called and total complaints in the game thread lol
That terrible rebounding cannot happen in game 3. CAN. NOT.
Is that a career high for Ja tho?
*Edit: Oh, damn. It's a franchise record.
They ain't gonna make 19 3s every game, so we play like this, and it's a legit series. Home court advantage. Let's protect the house
Who the **** talked **** on Donovan? Donovan is great.
Crucial swing point was at 97-100 when Melton missed a 3 and Bane fouled Clarkson for 3 at the other end. After that Utah tore away at the start of the 4th and that was that.
Jazz are playing like the 1 seed. We still are in touch though.
Mitchell is the truth. Takes crazy confidence and focus to come back from injury looking this good.
Remember when we thought we had a bench LMAO
Ingles and Bog are perfect for Utah. They look like Mormons that only practice 3s
How many times can Utah players step under or shove our players while they are in the air. ****ing dirty *** team. **** Ingles and Gobert
