An actual defensive slugfest between two offensively challenged teams with Ball and Rubio facing off for the first time - should be boring, but winnable.
I hope I'm wrong but I feel they are going to eat us alive from the inside and the outside. I see a 10-14 point loss, but I am hoping I'm wrong. Line is Utah -10.5 I believe, so Vegas feels the same. Back to Back away game, high altitude, Saturday night in Utah so fans can stay up a little pass 9 pm. Lots of things against us.
Just a heads up, Utah is favored by 10.5- despite the fact that both teams have the same record.* This is some serious disrespect, and if I was the Lakers and I saw the betting line I would be pissed off, the Jazz have no right to be favored by that much unless this game was gonna get bad calls in favor of the Jazz.
Game threads
Lonzo is invisible
Joe ingles looks like my neighbor
Mitchell covering Ball on D
guess we are still not convinced Ingles can hit that shot*
Kuzma is the only scorer on the team.
Rubio of course turns into Larry Bird against us, as usual.
Suddenly Mitchell and Rubio can shoot tonight.
Clippers lost an all star and they are 4-0.* We added an all-star and suck.
The Lakers on offense is really something uniquely bad
Kuzma's the best player on the team
We could have had Quinn as our HC...
Only down by 10 but feels like an asswhooping
Is Quinn going to have to choke a ref?
Snowflake Jazz coach, players, fans triggered by not receiving home-cooking call every trip down the floor.*
Jazz announcers call Derrick Favors "Faves"* Geeks.
Cover your eyes. The starters are back in.
Wow. Ingram. You suck!
This team lost to the Suns. We (bleep) suck.
So playing defense is optional for the players I guess.
Lopez can't match up with Gobert anyway. Rather play Randle who is agile and plays with energy.
freaking ingles is talking trash to BI
That half was the opposite of good
Jesus we need shooters. This is just ridiculous.
I really don't understand this starting 5. Kuzma >>> Ingram. Randle >>>> Nance or Lopez.
I really don't know why Ingram plays so much*He doesn't rebound* Not a good passer* Not a good shooter* Iso master* Bad defender* Why?
Who is this ingles?
Larry, how do you let Joe freaking Ingles beat your *** off the dribble for a layup.
why the hell is Bogut in the game? Luke is an idiot.
Who is guarding Hood? He is lighting us up.
Pfft so Mitchell is the Laker killer*
Can we trade Ball for Mitchell please?* Who is the 2nd pick who is 13th?* He is completely murdering Ball out there.
Ingram for Mitchell. Do it.
Wow, Mitchell looks really nice.* Wish we had a rookie that looked nice!
I like Mitchell he doesn't flex muscle like Clarkson after a big play.* He just goes about his business. ALL BUSINESS!
Mitchel was shooting 25% and 16.7 % from 3P until tonight. Playing like a superstar tonight.
That scrub mitchell is having the game of his life... You could tell by the way he's going all wild after plays
Honestly we have no one that can matchup with Gobert if Randle switches and stays on the perimeter.
gonna be a looooooong year folks
Not sure we keep going right at Gobert.
Snyder looks like evil Luke Walton
Donovan Mitchell is a stud.
I'd buy Donovan Mitchell $495 shoes.
Jazz makes their open 3s

Donovan Mitchell just dropped Thor's hammer on the Lakers. Respect.
Mitchell threw down a putback dunk that will be a candidate for dunk of the year and followed it up with a deep three-pointer to put the Jazz back ahead by 11 at the end of the quarter 75-64.
Donovan Mitchell owns Lonzo.
These refs are really working the spread tonight aren't they?
Shooting/FT coach is Shaq.
Ingram was the best part of this game. Zo needs to step it up.
white guy ingles just schooled nance and bi off the dribble. every laker gets an F- tonight
That white guy is one of the craftiest non-athletes in the NBA against 2 younger, athletic guys....
I'd be scared too if Rudy Gobert was waiting for me at the rim.
This Donovan Mitchell dunk deserves all the GIFs.
Postgame
jesus this team makes my teeth itch
Elsewhere,*Donovan Mitchell*certainly left a lasting impression on Lakers fans watching, scoring points off the bench and dropping an absolutely vicious putback dunk on the Lakers' heads:
Going forward, Mitchell will torch the Lakers for the rest of his entire career
Probably the most meek, pathetic display this season. At no point did the Lakers even remotely look like winning that game, out coached and out played. Even their rookie looked like a potential superstar compared to Lonzo Ball who was utterly dreadful in the game and yet played the most minutes.
Donovan Mitchell*had a great game for Utah off their bench. He led the team with 22 points, including a highlight putback dunk that stalled all the Lakers’ momentum in the fourth quarter. He made three three-pointers in the game, joining*Ricky Rubio,*Rodney Hood*and*Joe Ingles*as players to make three or more three-pointers in the game.
The Lakers also struggled*on the interior. Utah easily won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Lakers 49-39. The Lakers just didn’t have much of an answer on the interior for*Rudy Gobert*and*Derrick Favors.
Lonzo Ball positioned himself under the basket for what should have been a routine rebound. A 3-point attempt went up, and Ball traced its course with his eyes.
He glanced over his right shoulder a moment too late to save himself from the ensuing humiliation.
Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz rookie Ball called a “real good” friend and the man he was supposed to box out on the play, came soaring in for a one-handed tomahawk dunk as Ball leaned back to avoid impact.
On the Lakers’ next play, Ball threw a pass right to Jazz forward Joe Johnson, who found Mitchell for a 3-pointer.
“He just came flying in,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said, “got that tip dunk which electrified the home crowd, as it should have. He probably hit that next three because of how good he was feeling on the tip dunk.”
Separated by 12 seconds, it was those two plays with Ball on the wrong end that the Lakers rookie focused on after the they lost 96-81 to the Jazz on Saturday at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
Walton said he was pleased with Ball’s three 3-pointers, but he thought the rookie struggled with the size of the Jazz, whose defense is anchored by All-Star center Rudy Gobert.
“I think sometimes he got in there, might have over-penetrated,” Walton said, “but we’re being real picky because we’re asking him to get downhill and to (make plays) and*tonight it happened to be Gobert waiting for him down there.”
The Lakers had trouble with the Jazz players’ size. That’s been a theme so far this season. They struggled with teams that have size, like the Clippers and like the Pelicans. A big interior also makes it harder for Lonzo Ball to rebound, which he loves to do. Jazz center Rudy Gobert didn’t score much, but he had three blocked shots and a plus/minus rating of 22. The Lakers really like their small lineup, which features Julius Randle as the center, but it gets tougher against a team like this.
