Post Game
Our best chance to steal one, and they suck
Imagine those possessions if we didn’t give them 20 more shots
I just don’t see the Jazz shooting as poorly in game 2 but the Refs usually favor the team that loses game 1 so we can hope.
This is why Luka deserves MVP. Grizz are good with or without Ja With Luka, we could beat 6-7 of the top NBA teams. Without him we can’t win one game
Honestly I think the story of this game is the poor FT shooting. Mavs left too many freebies.,
Yeah we knew coming in the Gobert and Whitside gave Utah the advantage but some of those rebounds was because our bigs don't box out good. Powell is almost unplayable without Luka
Damn that sucks. Absolutely killed on the boards. Only in this game because of the free throw discrepancy. Hate that Luka got hurt when he did. This organization needs a playoff series win.
Just absolutely murdered on the boards, cost us the entire game
Everytime Josh Green shoots it’s a turnover. He cannot stay in the game
I guess Mitchell realized Bertans can’t play defense And is attacking him more now
Clean up on efficiency and we win easily. And we get Luka back, it won’t even be close
Love Dinwiddie, but thats on him. 6 missed free throws, blown defensive assignments, missed layups, etc
If they don't win game 2 this series is over and since this game was immensely winnable this might already be it. I'm so freaking angry and I don't even know whom to direct my rage at.
With Mitchell, Bogdanovic, Conley and Clarkson, they have 4 offensive weapons, and it's really hard to keep them down.
Honestly, the starters played pretty well. Powell was pretty ineffective offensively without Luka lobs, but otherwise, you have to give it to them. Our bench was near non-existent though; would have been nice if a few of those open Josh Green 3's went down.
Without Luka = zero chance. Utah will play better and with more confidence. They have seen the best Mavs support cast can do and are not afraid anymore. Utah struggled mentally yet if you take that away their talent takes over.
One bad game today wasted our whole year effort for gaining that home court advantage
It was more bad game from Jazz than Mavs. Brunson and Dinwiddie playing like Jordan won't win you much, and unfortunately Mavs cannot play much differently.
Unfortunately that's the reality. If we can't beat them in one of their worst night, it's clear we don't have a chance to win this series.
Defense was good if we ignore rebounding.
Jazz have now scouted the Luka-less Mavs.
That was the best chance to surprise them with something different.
Mavs offense was disappointing.
I just can't like the Jazz. I don't know what it is, I just don't like them at all.
You have to give credit to the guys, every one of them looked focused and played hard.
The saddest thing is I don't see how we can get closer : the Jazz (especially Mitchell) shot poorly and I don't see them not shooting better next game (even if we continue playing great defense) whereas the Mavs don't look like they can play better on offense, it's not like they missed tons of makeable shots like the Jazz. And I also don't think we'll continue getting that many FTs.
Donovan Mitchell "played poorly"? Yikes that 3rd he had was legendary
I really wish they’d play Trey Burke instead of Bertrans. Yea Bertrand is a better shooter, but Burke gives you playmaking too, and Burke is arguably better defensively.
I actually think we're getting swept without Luka lol. We've never won in Utah.
Oh well, I wasn't expecting a win. It's still a missed opportunity with the Jazz playing subpar and the refs sending the Mavs to the line so many times.
Brunson and Dinwiddie have to shoot better than that.
Too much uneccessary doubling.
Brunson and Mitchell both are listed 1.85m in height. But because of Mitchell agility and leaping ability he plays a lot taller.
The Jazz have too many options to be playing zone against them. Donovan is building up speed every time the Mavs switch.
Mitchell has realized Mavs have no help defense to protect the rim. Maxi is left on an island.
God Dinwiddie has been a** in this 2nd half. Giving up the last five points with piss poor defense.
Jazz made adjustments and everyone disappeared on offense except JB. this is looking rough...
They gotta figure out Bogdanovic. And Clarkson. Both are doing work early while Mitchell struggles. If he finds his shot it could get overwhelming.
When you study for Mitchell, but get Bogdanović on the test
They barely beat us and Mitchell shot terriblly. That won’t happen again, this was the one for us to steal
Jazz are dodging a ****ing missle with no Luka… Weak *** team
Gobert’s defense was really the X Factor for this game . Tough scoring for Brunson with Rudy in the paint.
I hate how Gobert plays basketball. He is no offensive threat outside of lobs and he can only play defense in the paint
Josh Green was horrendous today. He willingly took the shots he received as he needs to do, but he did not make any.
The jazz shot like garbage aswell. If you can’t beat them with their **** performance tonight, you can’t beat them without Luka at all. No open threes generated and Brunson has to settle for the toughest midrange **** because we can’t get to the glass against gobert. We were a mediocre offensive team this season, we are a **** offense without Luka
Utah basically decided to take away the Powell lob (just 2-6), the DFS three (just four shot attempts overall), let Brunson/Dinwiddie get theirs and otherwise are daring the rest to shoot wide open threes or attack, which they have not been able to do (4-17, 1 assist).
God the Jazz played terrible. To play even worse and lose on your home floor even with a friendly whistle is just ugly.
Royce friggin O'neill was the dagger. We see lots of him when Luka plays but he was almost invisible, almost.
I think this is reality. Mitchell has been bad and I don't think he will have two such games in a row. Still Mavs couldn't pull it off. Not sure we can expect Maxi to play better. Defense is leaving him wide open and he manages 7 shots. Basically what we know he is, no surprise there. Green similar. They will be leaving him wide open. Brunson and Dinwiddie can beat their man but not well enough, not like Luka. Defense doesn't need to double/help much. Bullock and DFS gave what is their reality, I think they were very good.
Bottomline, I can see Utah play much better, but I don't think Mavs have another gear without Luka.
This one felt like a missed opportunity. The Jazz were playing pretty terribly in that game, bad ball movement, poor shooting, stupid fouls, I wasn't impressed by them.
Our offense is pretty brutal without Luka though. If Utah keeps playing like that I actually think we could survive an 0-2 hole if Luka returns by game 3
We lost because
Getting our rebounded by 19
Shooting on 38/28/76 shooting splits(open 3's or decent looks being missed and Dinwiddie Bricking Ft's)
Putting guards on Bogdonavic all game
Allowing Bertans to get abused on defense all game
Having poor ball movement with Brunson running in circles a lot of the time
We only generated 10 points off of 15 Utah turnovers, as well. (Assuming ESPN's team stats are correct)
I'm just tired of moral victories. I'm not sure the jazz will let another game without luka get this close, this was our chance and we missed it
In a strange twist, with Luka’s injury, it would’ve been better to NOT have home court
We literally got all the calls in the 2nd half and still lost. I saw somewhere we got the most free throws in the 2nd half of a playoff game since 2015 and we still got outscored. We have no chance of winning games without Luka, plain and simple.
Tired of the Luka narrative when it comes to this single game. This team could have won this one without him if they had simply shot a bit better and denied the Jazz easy offensive rebounds. So give up the Luka talk already. When he comes back the Mavs are going to destroy this Jazz team.
Bertans single handedly allowing 50+ points to be scored in only 17 min of play
We gave up THIRTEEN offensive boards equating to TWENTY second chance points.
Well, maybe it seems harsh, but he completely locked down the paint. I did not want to disrespect them, Gobert even gives Luka trouble and Luka is like the perfect player to match up against Gobert.
Gobert was insane defensively today.
I'd say we're unlucky in that we had a good season and got matched with the same team that had the best record in the NBA last season. Not sure why everyone so quickly forgot that and thought it was a good matchup. We can still win obviously but this is the last of the possible matchups I would've picked.
I guess we should’ve just practiced FTs all week and we would’ve gotten the W lol
Whether it’s scheme or guys getting cocky, we need to stop challenging Rudy Gobert at the rim. He’s got two DPOYs for a reason.
Three.
Y'all see the impact Powell had? Crazy how much Luka elevates him.
To be fair, Rudy Gobert is probably the toughest opponent in the league for him.
We're not gonna win in Utah with or without him. Let's face it. The crowd today was very mediocre and left early. The crowd in Utah is always insane in the playoffs.
You hoping Mitchell is gonna play like **** every game?
Will never see 35 FTs in a game again. Refs and Jazz begged the Mavs to take it. No moral victories around here.
So Jason Kidd had a week to prepare and the best he could come up with was... iso with Brunson and Dinwiddie over and over again. Not on Gobert but on every other player, letting Gobert be the defensive presence at the rim.
This was their sucker punch game to steal one at home without Luka and the coaches blew it. Now the Jazz know whats coming and will probably blow out the Mavs in game 2 because this team just can’t score with a ****** iso offense.
Brunson was tryna do too much the whole game; he just wasn’t very effective. I feel very confident if Luka comes back, but without him, we’re toast.
Powell was so useless with Gobert under the paint. PnR is cancelled. I hope Coach Kidd and Luka (hopefully he’ll be back) can adjust to this.
Honestly...if the Jazz remembered that Gobert existed on offense, this probably would've been a blowout instead of a narrow win
Dude West is gonna be a bloodbath next season. Clippers and Denver are gonna be scary, Min, Grizzlies are gonna be even better than now, Suns and Warriors are still gonna be really good. Need to take every change we have at this moment.
Mavs lookin like a headless chicken just running around. Getting some great fouls but missing free throws. I’m gonna sleep angry right now (currently 4 am in our country)
Man if we can ****ing get Gobert in the off season best player on the floor and scored two points a dream big for Luka
I think the straight up isolations need to go. Rudy is too good at stopping those, pick and roll, handoffs and actions worked much better.
That lull in the third was all dead isolations
My Thunder fan friend is trolling me saying we should trade Luka for picks since he’ll want out and it made me very mad at my friend
Serious Q for people who understand more than I do - why would Boban not get any minutes against Gobert? He's highly effective in the paint and they'd have to park Gobert on him to prevent him from getting easy 2s every possession. This would neutralize some/most of Gobert's defensive gravity (unless they run 2 bigs?). And since nobody feeds Gobert on offense it doesn't seem like it'd be a huge sacrifice on D just to have Boban in the key because he can't move very well.
Our best chance to steal one, and they suck
Imagine those possessions if we didn’t give them 20 more shots

20: Number of second chance points for the Jazz The Mavericks have no one who can truly contend with Rudy Gobert’s size so they tried a novel defensive approach. They simply didn’t guard him. The Jazz repeatedly failed to see the biggest man on the court but not guarding him meant that he was free to roam for offensive rebounds which he did. He was only credited with two offensive rebounds but his presence caused many loose balls to be picked up by teammates. The Mavericks need to find an answer for his sheer size going forward.
