The play titled "Hood S.FOUL (P5.PN) (L.Wood)" is a terrible call IMO. That's one of the ones I hate and I feel can be labeled "Super-star call". It didnt require any high level of skill on Harden's part like his sleight of hand calls he gets. This one is just light body contact off a failed screen and him fading to exaggerate contact.

"Exum S.FOUL (P2.T4) (D.Stafford)" is just kind of example of what you just can't do anymore in the NBA against smart players, reaching over while fighting through a screen. I think this is an example of something the NBA might want to look at and just call on the floor in the future.

Look at what Hood is doing. The dude keeps reaching right into Harden's shooting pocket. He is basically begging for Harden to draw a foul. Not only does Hood reach with a consistent repeating rhythm, Harden sees that he is doing that and purposefully dribbles and walks the ball up with a slow pace to lull Hood into a false sense of safety, then times Hood's last reach with a lighting quick shot attempt.

I think Hood might be trying to bait him into going up for an attempt, thinking he can pull his hands back in time, but Harden is too good at doing this. It's a legitimate foul call and one that only he and few other guys can get because of their hand speed and how closely defenders have to play them.

I think what you are talking about is a particular play.

What I'm talking about is how I feel about officiating in general.

The refs do in fact often call fouls when you guard him perfectly though. Calls that they wouldn't call the same if a player like hood was the one with the ball.

Superstar calls (preferential treatment) is a real thing and bothers me.
Offensive players who jump into guys when the defender is doing everything that can to avoid contact bothers me. Flopping bothers me.

Perfect defense often gets rewarded by being called a foul and that bothers me.

Having said all that, less jim is a dumbass.

the NBA is so much better than it has ever been. Half of the players in the 90's wouldn't even be able to make NBA rosters now. The talent level is higher across the board and the game is more fun to watch.

I agree that it's funner to watch, but I'm curious if this would still be your opinion if we were still in the Corbin/Jefferson era.

I remember watching things like the mid 90s finals wig slow post up ugly assed basketball. Unskilled very physical types like Charles Oakley, PJ Brown etc. no thanks. Lost interest in the NBA for quite a while when it was all about huge guys with limited skill repeatedly backing in to the rim in the post. Today's game of ball movement, skills, shooting is beautiful to watch in comparison.

Have you ever tried to sit down and watch a game from the pre-Jordan era? Mid-range jumpers. all. game. long. It's horrible.

No, it just makes it even easier to score. If someone is just going to be overly aggressive and try to foul you harder, that just means you are going to get even more fouls called because the refs are going to notice and crackdown even harder. It's a common misconception among people that you should foul harder to dissuade a player from driving/shooting. Maybe that works on bad players, but it doesnt work on great ones like Harden and you are foolish if you think so. This isn't the 80's.

Being a physical player doesnt equal committing unnecessary hard fouls. I guess if we were in the 80/90 that could exist with Oakley types, and they were so great for basketball, nothing better than watching fights and fouls that can end player's careers!

Actually playing more physical tends to limit the amount of calls the ref makes. Play it super physical for a while and then play like the Jazz did last night and the lesser of the 2 amounts of contact start looking less like fouls. Also I don't consider those fouls unnecessary if they are going to call them fouls anyway.

Part of what makes the NBA the best sport's league in the world is the contrast of styles from team to team, player to player. I don't like watching Harden do his foul drawing techniques, but at the same time I appreciate/respect it in a way because it offers another contrasting style to the NBA. It makes it that more gratifying when we beat them. Was the last air-ball he shot not fun to watch? Was it not fun to beat them? Was the game boring in your opinion? Not everything about a sport is going to be pleasing to watch to all fans. I'm sure a lot of fans dont like watching Jazz/Grizzlies slow down tempo and grind a game out.

You do that through holding/grabbing, not making big fouls that refs feel the need to call the game tighter.

Yes it does. Do you never watch the Grizzlies or Spurs? They don't go out there and deliver hard fouls as much as they constantly do little things like grabbing/pushing. I dont think you even watch basketball anymore.

Watch any basketball game, any kind of flagrant foul or borderline flagrant foul results in refs calling the game much more closely.

Do the Spurs or Grizzlies go out there and commit flagrant fouls? No, they don't. You play tough defense by being physical, not acting like it's the 90's. The Spurs are regularly dead last in flagrant fouls every year. Does that make them soft and unwatchable in your eyes?

No, TV ratings are outdated since a lot of viewers do not watch games on television. Do you watch Jazz games on TV, LeaguePass, or illegal streams?

We wont be playing the Rockets in the playoffs this year unless we fall to the 6th seed (which I honestly would be fine with).

I would much rather get 3rd seed, push the Rockets to 4 and get them to play the Clippers, and then have us go against the Grizz. Then we can play the winner of Spurs OKC in the 2nd, and the Warriors in the 3rd.

If we stay 4th seed, our path is Clippers --> Warriors, which I'm not nearly as fond of.

Hayward is doing that way less this year. Last year it drove me nuts cuz it isn't fun to watch.
Harden does earn a lot of calls but he also gets the benefit of the doubt/******** calls too often. If I could add one rule to the NBA it would be a "spirit of the rules/game" rule. Basically the ref isn't a damn motion sensor. He is interpreting your actions and intentions and making calls accordingly. The letter of the law isn't what's important to me. The end product is. If Harden is attempting to actually make a 3 give it to him. If not he'll No. I don't want to watch him hook a players hand with one arm, throw up a crap shot, and then shoot FTs. The NBA changes the rules to allow players more movement so that the game was more exciting. They didn't change the rules to make it less watchable.
