Quotes from the Pelicans' forums - "donovan is apparently the best basketball player in history"

Gentry is a bad coach and if they want to trade AD to the Celtics maybe to the Jazz. Anything not named gobert or Mitchell 3 future first? Probably not but hell AD and Gobert would be monsters to score on.
Could probably pull it off with three future firsts if we promised one came via Denver.

you want to win in the NBA, cousins is not the guy. you want a big to put up numbers, go get cousins.
I see Cousins as Carmelo, except I think he’s more talented overall (Cousins). Even though he’s a cancer, though, he’s probably more likeable as a person than Carmelo. I’d expect a franchise like NY to take a flyer on him.

i'd agree. he's a better version. cousins dominated last night, but if he doesn't play like that, he's not good enough defensively or in terms of being a teammate to consistently win. young Carmelo was the same way. he had the ability to win games by himself, but over the course of a season, didn't make teammates better or defend well enough to be a big time winner. the old carmelo we are seeing now just sucks.

I agree though I'm not sure he's more talented than a young Carmello. And Cousins for all his faults is a far superior passer when compared to Carmello. But in the end I don't think either of them help a team be a winner.

I think there are a couple notable exceptions between Carmelo and Cousins, though, which I think have to do with Carmelo’s ego. I believe you could take Cousins and put him in a rare situation, such as being in an ultra stable structure around guys like Popovich, Duncan and Ginobili, and he’d be a willing participant in making the team better and you could get the most out of him while mitigating some of the garbage, whereas I don’t think Carmelo could. But you won’t have any success with either if you’re counting on them being one of first or second cogs.

If Rudy, Quin and Donovan really solidified then you may be able to make that as an argument and at that point you may come at a discount (as that wise).

I think Cousins' personality would seriously strain a situation like that. I think that is an area where they are very much alike. So I don't think Cousins could work in a situation like that either.

Wasn't Gentry a name that popped up as a possible replacement for Corbin?

Yes. Carmelo has never done well when placed on a good team with a strong coach.
