Rank these parks from best to worst

I suppose I'll chime in with my rank as well of those I've visited prior: Yellowstone (head north instead?), Zions, Arches, Bryce, Canyon Lands. If you're only doing it in a day, perhaps Yellowstone should be on your list. I think it's like 3-3.5 hrs from the SLC.

Food: Chungas or Red Iguana are fine for Mexican. Red Iguana is on the food shows so I suppose that is where you're encouraged to go but there are some damn good taco carts as well (800 S State St) or, again, Chungas is a hole-in-the-wall place with good eats! I agree that Spitz is good too - only been to the downtown one but I guess they have another location as well. Not big on sushi so got nothing there.

Thanks about the Yellowstone recommendation. I foolishly hadn't even thought of that.

At about 8K elevation for twenty miles, on a heavy snow year like this year, you're right. I know nothing about the "Park Service" and their gate hours. I've been there in May and other summer months, and I don't pay attention to bureaucracy, so thanks for the contribution. The drive is worth it, and so would it be worth it if the road was open, any month of the year.... you know, like the roads are open to ski resorts and such. What a great place to cross country ski or snowmobile all winter long, good like Yellowstone, which is the same elevation and probably more snow.

Good reason to privatize the Parks, imo. We'd have better management.

It won't be open much then. There is about 20 feet of snow there right now. Not even joking. They are just beginning to plow the roads in grand Teton National Park right now.

All the parks are a really long drive from Salt Lake. But if you are going to pick two, you have to pick either Zion and Bruce or arches and canyonlands.

Zion/bryce is first

Arches canyonlands a very close second.

Capitol reef and grabs staircase are awesome, but remote and not too accessible.

Any if the parks will require two days of your vacation, or at the least a late night and all day into the late night travelling back. You'll need a place to stay near the parks. St George is a good place for Zion, moab for arches.

Could Indo Zion/Bryce both in one day.

Then do Arches and Canyonlands the next day.

Would this be so watered down that it wouldn't due them justice?

Not sure how that is obvious considering I've never been to them. I have no idea how vast in acreage these places are.

Do you also lack the ability to read a basic map? You don't need to go to places to understand the basics about their size, accessibility, etc.

Except because something is simply vast according to a map does not mean the entire land is appealing and worth seeing. 80% of it could be barren wastelands or such and not worth my time.

Thanks a bunch though.

Not to mention I don't intend to do crazy research and map out every detail. I want to see what the masses say, do a little research on what to see and just enjoy the experience without feeling like it is something I planned or scheduled to the minute.

If you were going Wednesday and Thursday it looks like moonrise will be a little before 3am on W and a little after on Th.

The most magical time to be in the desert imo.

Well then, hear this (I have actually been trying to help in this thread): you won't be in the area long enough to get some kind of "full experience" of even one park, let alone 4. If you want to get some sense of the power of a place, it'd be best to pick one park and then not hurry your *** off to the next experience.

(also, national park boundaries don't include 'waste lands'. That's sort of the opposite of what national parks are, in a sense.)

Is there a hot spring about 20-30 minutes outside of Park City? Someone was telling me about a lake or spring or something that's a beautiful blue and I think they said it's 20-30 minutes northwest of PC. I forget who told me this.
