Ranking defensive point guards and are defense identity

So I am thinking what if Trey does not improve offense who should I target this summer? There are plenty of point guards who can score which seems to be the knock about Trey. I want to keep defensive identity. We are number one we only need improve offense for championship yes?

I make list of all significant minutes point guards base on defense box plus minus. Trey is 16 put of 65 point guard. Dante is 27. (If I include Bryce Cotton he is number 2 on small minute sample!)

Here are guards I look to acquire that they are above Trey in defense in ascending order.
Ty Lawson
Dennis Schroeder
Greivis Vasquez
Aaron Brooks
D.j Augustine
Zach Lavine
Isaiah Thomas
Isaiah Canaan

Isaiah Canaan is a interesting case. He could be had for nothing. His assist % is pretty good and hes young. Combine with elite defense and we could find a gem in the rough.

Dennis Schroeder is probably best all around. His asst% is INSANE for a backup.

Ty Lawson was by far the best fit for us in scoring facilitating and defense but he does not want play in. Utah.

Isaiah Thomas. Very much underrated team player.

I like Cannan in the sense that he has a above average outside shot and he can play defense.

I think Snyder wants a big PG though as an option. I don't think he likes the idea of Trey and Neto running the point.

I think we will go after Temple or a guy like him(tall defender) and keep Neto and Cotton.

Don't we already have a thread about what pg we should get?

I would have say Zach because age and size but like you say unavailable. I think Trey will be > Zach but not by much. Both will become good. Remember Trey is only 22 Zach 21.

But Zach has an amazing athletic ability and his skills are improving.

Trey is not an athlete and his skills have not improved.
