Rate the Song Above You

I love Nick Cave. 8/10

This just came out, one of my favorite bands.

Refused - 6/10. Loved the driving rock, didn't dig his voice.

Valerie June - 7.5/10. REALLY promising, will check out more of her stuff.

You like rockabilly at all?

The Devil's Daughters - Pass That Bottle

Pass that Bottle - 6/10 Like the genre, voice and some of the sound was lacking.

I like this band more. This isn't my favorite song of theirs, but it's a decent look.

7/10 not a big fan of rockabilly already, but this is better than the band above them.

Here's something a little more palatable.

Eh 5/10. I don't mind the Christian themes at all, and have been known to like some Christian rock, but this is maybe too strummy for me.

Here's an instrumental piece to change it up a bit. I went for a fan-made video because it's better than staring at a pixelated album cover, so the music starts at ~15 seconds. Song is Last of the Wilds by Nightwish.

6/10 - interesting instrumental, I like the change of tempo

there's really no video with this, just the album cover

Don't mind it! Light-hearted, smooth vocals that kinda float through the track. Decently melodic. If it came on the radio, I wouldnt switch it off. On the same token, I wouldnt go out of my way to buy the song on iTunes-- don't resonate too much with it.

6.5

Posted this in the other music thread-- curious as to what y'all think! Enjoy Dal's tastes.

Not bad. Not quite my cup of tea - seems like they're trying too hard. 6/10

Black Dub - I Believe In You

That's Daniel Lanois on keys, Brian Blade on drums, and Trixie Whitley singing.

7/10. Classic, if painful.

But if we're going that route:

Velvet Underground - Waiting for the Man (I read a thing recently which said that, when you first start listening, it sounds like Moe Tucker's drumming has been going since the beginning of the universe, and you're just happening to tune in to it now.)

It is kinda not fair for me to rate this one as I am already a pretty big VU fan. And this one has always been a favorite of mine. I give it a solid 7.5/10. I think they carry the hesitation repeat in the middle a little too long, but otherwise a solid offering. I really like electronic music and heavy guitars so that leads me to certain groups and VU made nice use of the electronic manipulation available at the time. My offering in the following post.......
