He's been a great 2nd rd pick and is a tremendous bargain next year.. as for locking him up long-term I'm fairly confident that's not in the Jazz best interests or his.. It'd be cool if they could trade him at the deadline next year for a 2nd rd pick, that'd mean he'd put in above-pay grade service and it didn't really cost a damn thing, almost like they pulled him out of thin air...
I'm not sure what the market is on him, I'd imagine like 2.5M a year?!? He'd be better off on some ****/rebuilding team for sure... Knicks fans would LOVE him because he's scrappy and plays with effort and guile and flashes some nice skill, Pablo Prigioni was a crowd favorite for that type of stuff...
I really get hung up on this when it comes to Neto and the Jazz;
Exum's got this fantastically diverse skillset when you're talking about just about one of the (assumed 3)PG spots on the depth chart.. Really this should be capitalized on and Neto's just not that guy..
Here's why; Exum's a big/long defender, he's developing into a triple-threat has great chemistry with Rudy and best of all he's quick as a cat.. Many teams use 2 or 3 roster spots to try and get that mix..........
So to me if you just have Exum and 2 spots to fill in.. thats just fantastic or even ideal(for any other team with a PG problem and capspace)... there's so much firepower you can add to that.. and the Jazz have unselfish wings (and PF's).. obviously the key word should be FIREPOWER (thats what George Hill has provided)... So Neto obviously doesn't really fit that build, he's a true pg.. They can go after 3pt shooters or maybe 3nd type and one player who can shoot and might be a terror getting to the rim..
There's also a potential size advantage that can be built behind Exum on a depth chart, and Neto's a potential soft spot in that regard.. I just think if they take Neto long-term ultimately that means he's your diminutive PG and there's no room for another...... and ultimately there's better options out there for Utah, small guards who are sharper offensively.. Like a JALEN BRUNSON.
I think there's a very strong case for letting him play thru next year and just letting him walk. He could prove quite useful if an injury occurs, so it's actually a LOW - RISK move..
