What's new

Raul Neto in SLC

The only way I really see the Jazz getting more than one of the top 8 picks is if they sit tight at 5 and then work out a sign and trade with Boston for Gordon Hayward after free agency begins. They have to be serious about matching the contract otherwise. Regardless of who the Jazz take at #5, whoever Boston takes at #6 has to be a part of any sign and trade deal. There can be other pieces included - a future draft pick or freeing up some cap space by taking on a bad contract. . . but they have to get that lottery pick out of it or match the contract.

Assuming that it goes - Embiid, Wiggins, Parker and Smart/Exum - Jazz can take either Exum, Gordon or Vonleh at 5. Boston will then either take Exum, Gordon, Vonleh or Smart. After free agency begins, IF Hayward wants to go to Boston, it's going to cost them Exum, Gordon, Vonleh or Smart. I don't care which. But that's the price to pay. Give me Gordon and Exum (who I think are the two most likely to go 5&6), and I'd be pretty happy with how things turned out (even though I'm not an Exum fan).

There is no such thing as a sign and trade with and RFA until after the draft and no way to make it happen.

I think what you meant to say is that there's no way to trade an unsigned RFA for a draft pick because you can't. It's against the rules. It, however, is not against the rules to work out a sign and trade with said RFA once the free agency period has begun. This is exactly what happened with Tyreke Evans just last offseason.

In order to do this, the Jazz would have to draft their guy at 5. Boston would have to draft their guy at 6. They can't even talk trade at this point because Hayward isn't under contract. They would then both have to wait until the free agency period has begun. Then Gordon Hayward would have to negotiate a contract with a team other than the Jazz. Assuming that contract is with Boston, once that contract has been negotiated, the Jazz would have to threaten to match said contract. This can be done publicly through the press. Or, the two teams could negotiate the terms of a Sign and Trade instead of an outright offer sheet. The Jazz would have to take back salary to make it work, but that's a small price to pay if they're willing to include the #6 pick (whomever it is) in the sign and trade deal.

The point I was trying to make is that they do have that option. If the Celtics don't include the #6 pick in the deal, then I'm going to match the contract and be perfectly happy welcoming Hayward back to Utah on his brand new contract. They either get another elite prospect, or they keep Hayward. One of the two. I'm happy with either.

And yet horrific as we tally 65 points a night.

Serious?

We didn't average that last year, with Burks and Kanter (are two most offensively potent players) playing conservative roles.

LaVine has in the building range on his shot as well. You start:

Burke
Burks
Hayward
Kanter
Favors

And have a bench of

Neto
Lavine
A-God
Evans
Gobert

That bench has so much speed and length. Fast break central. good shooting from Lavine. handles from A-God, neto, and Lavine. Defensive beasts w/ A-God and Gobert. Runners w/ Neto, Evans, LaVine, and A-God. Above the rim action from everyone except Neto.

That team will score. It just won't be slow and based in the half court. Both of those players seem like they'd fit well in Snyder's system (by what he says).
