Re Draft of 2010

Just wait until AK has his yearly injury and our 34 year old wing starts breaking down.

Hayward will get minutes this year, and we'll see what he's really made of.

Hell, he's starting tonight.

He hasn't made a net positive contribution (a PER above 15, or positive +/-) when it has mattered all season. If he can do that tonight, I consider it a victory (again, that can be individually statistically, or the team play better when he's on the floor).

Not hiding, but there simply isn't anything to say when he isn't playing. I still have faith, although I honestly thought he would play 10-15 MPG this year for us.

Tonight, could certainly help in that cause. From the sounds of it Bell might miss some more games in the future with his injury, so the young fella should get a chance.

I hated the pick at the time, and while Hayward's minutes haven't done much to help his case, it's clear that the guy brings at least a few things to the table. He has a nose for the ball, seems to be a very good rebounder, and runs the court like a gazelle. His shot is suspect IMO, and his confidence and defense are a work in progress, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the guy is getting 20+ minutes per night next season. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts.

I think GVC brings up some good points to be optimistic about. I think it all starts with the kid's shot. If he can figure that out, then everything will sink into place. In order for that to happen he needs GAME TIME. period.

Thats what I hate. When you wait years for a lottery pick and then take a guy like Hayward and say wait a couple years is absurd. When you get a lottery pick, you want production immediately. You don't take a guy who is going to warm the bench like Hayward.

And I will eat crow if he ever amounts to anything

How many in that draft class would be starting for us and making an impact? Just curious.

The Jazz should experiment giving Hayward the ball to start the offense. Similar to the way DWill gives the ball to AK or CJ once in awhile to let them initiate something. Of course they usually don't, but maybe this is Hayward's calling. He was the man at Butler, not sure if he is being used properly as the 5th option. He rarely gets touches and just sets screens and runs around like a dam fool 20 out of 24 seconds in the possession.

He looked pretty bad tonight. In his defense, if you're trying to get a rookie's confidence going you may not want to put him on a guy like Vince Carter who will eat him alive.

I'm running out of ways to talk myself into Hayward, but I'll stick with the fact the kid's 20 and he played for Butler. The NBA game is a massive adjustment for him. He looks tight on open jump shots right now. I'm writing this year off, but I wouldn't be surprised if he can contribute later this year. Not hopeful, either. But I think next year he'll be a lot more comfortable.

Me too. But like you said he hasn't been playing at all except for spot minutes. I don't think he's really looking for his shot very much but when he does play he is hustling and trying to make an impact in the game. Right now that's good enough because we don't need him to be a star for us at this point.

When is it time to call a spade a spade already? Sure, he might turn into something, but he was terrible tonight and had a negative impact on the game. His only positive stat was 2 rebounds in 18 minutes. The rest? 0-1, 0 pts, 0 asts, 1 TO, 4 PFs, +/- of -1. He was the only player in the starting lineup that wasn't double-digits in +/- and he didn't bring anything statistically or defensively. Granted, he had NO BUSINESS being matched up against Vince Carter, but come on.

I'll be the first in line to get my helping of crow when it's time. But he's been terrible.

Gordon, if you're reading this; just kidding. You'll be great, keep your head up.

Kinda hard to get shots when your teammates ignore you.

I don't think he was terrible at all. I do agree that his impact was pretty much nothing other than maybe saving CJ Miles some energy so he could have a good game off the bench! I'm not at all saying Gordon will be a superstar but I just don't really think he's been given a lot of PT and it's definitely shown, especially on a night like this where he's given a chance to start after so many DNPs.

I think we can easily say that he'd be much improved if he got at least 10-15 mpg, but he's not getting that and therefore is very timid in the few minutes he does sporadically get.

I understand as a coach you have to worry about floor/team chemistry and looking at lineups I don't know how it could've worked but last night it would've been nice to have Hayward matched against Reddick and/or QRich so at least he didn't get abused by VCarter and destroy whatever confidence he may be trying to build.

Again worrying about 1 player over the rest of the team and chemistry is not going to happen but it would be nice if he could be put in position match up wise to gain some confidence.
