Re-drawing Districts

The only reason why Utah lawmakers are considering this is because the R wants to eradicate Jim Matheson.

I hope they fail.

Matheson is seriously the only dude from our state that doesn't look like, act like, or sound like a tea party foxnews loon wearing a tin foil hat living in his parents basement.
 
I seriously don't understand the board hate with people living in basements. have you ever though that maybe those people are getting a good deal?

Matheson is the same politician who didn't vote for Obamacare because A) they didn't need his vote and B) there was no chance he would be re-elected with a vote for it.

This is why we need term limits. So the Jim Matheson's of the world don't find them self regurgitating the same ideals that only serve to help themselves politically.
 
basements are cool. when i was a lil young boy use to have fun in the basement.

i miss our basemement now. i had to stop playing in our basement. cus i outgrew it, would be bad for my back to play it on all over again.

basement only has a clearing of 5 foot 7 or something

Please name a Utah politician that doesn't do that... In fact, name a politician, American or foreign, that doesn't do exactly what you just said.

And how do term limits prevent politicians from only doing that which helps them out politically or financially?

And please, don't bring up Orrin hatch, who failed to vote on his DREAM Act.

And please, don't bring up Tea Party nutcake Lee. He's against foreign waste coming to Utah (only after Energy Solutions gets to bring their crap from Italy to the West Desert).
 
It sounds to me like Mullet should suggest an Amendment that forces politicians to vote. They can no longer forget to vote, be absent, or just miss.

I never said I liked Hatch. The man is a liar plain and simple. His initial campaign promise was that he would serve a maximum of 2 terms in the Senate. 34 years later look who is still around. I find that you are so Progressive and set in your ways that I could name anyone with a differing opinion than yours and you would ridicule them and look at the Huffington Post for talking points. Which brings me to term limits. Politicians who actually have a set limit of terms they serve(which 2 to me is fine for the Senate and 4 for the House) might actually do what is right instead of politically convenient. If you want a choice closer to your heart(nutcase) Alan Greyson fits the bill of a guy who didn't sell his ideals down the river. Don't like the guy, but he didn't. Neither did Ron Paul but I am sure Huffpo will give you the full scoop on Mr Paul.

How about the other guy who recently lost to Chaffetz? Same thing.
 
Here's the current district cut up:

I don't think they have released the intrastate demographics yet, right? The metro breakdown is essentially Salt Lake: 1.2 mil. Provo: 600 k. Ogden: 600 k. St George: 200 K though.

I would do something like this:

Your district 4 only has about 200k people in it.

If the breakdown is what you say then obviously the SLC metro should have two representatives and the rest of the state should split the other two.

Total Utah population is about 2.8 million. If the Salt Lake metro has 1.2 million then it's not much of a stretch to say that it deserves half of the state's representation. I'm sure it's even more fair when you take into account its share of the state's economic activity.

Should? Pfft. Having two from Salt Lake risks Democrats winning seats. Obviously Salt Lake has to be split up in fourths because that's somehow fairererer.
 
My lines aren't certainly perfect, and I have no idea where the 600k people that live in the Ogden metro are counted, but that's what I was going for in 4. That should encompass the Ogden metro which would give it enough people and a couple of outliers for around 700k.

Not the case, the suburbs are a far different voting demographic than the city proper. And the city proper only has about 200 k so you would have to throw the whole thing into one district.

I was wrong. My knowledge of Utah geography isn't what I think it is sometimes. For some reason I had it in my head that Ogden was in Box Elder County.

This is what happens when you're trying to recall lessons from fifth grade.

In Japan, they expect you to live with your parents. I know enough people in America that do so too so I would think the stereotype is fading. I certainly don't consider it any cooler that some dude is living in a closet space in New York thinking he is the man.
