Re-sign `em all - A value-scenario

Interesting approach.

All I will add is that if it's approached from an asset-management standpoint and the Jazz understand they're still undermanned at the end of the day, then great. If it all pans out that way.

Do we ever contend for titles with no upgrades to this current lineup? Not likely. So this is not the way to go.

One could easily argue that if we are seeing the true potential of this current Jazz roster and not just a nice hot streak and this team were to stay healthy, Exum comes back as a solid contributor, and Donovan continues his upward trajectory, then what you currently have could be top 4 in the WC.

Undermanned?

Jazz are one of the deepest teams in the NBA. Exum is about to come back. They are overmanned if anything.

The biggest issue I’ve seen of late is JJs minutes. Love the guy, but I’m hoping for that trade or buyout so more productive guys can take his minutes.

The only guy as far as the future I can’t decide on is Hood. IDK what figure someone is going to be willing to throw at him this offseason. I think if it’s over 12-13 mill a year you’re over paying, and if the Jazz don’t trade him, and someone offers him more than that I think you have to let him go.

I’m not exactly sure what you do as the Jazz right now. No one is buying the leaves you’re selling. We have a decent team, but are a couple moves away from a great team. I think peoples problems are when you think of competing for a title you consider Golden State. I’m not sure there’s many moves for any team to end up competing with them in a 7 game series. This offseason may be pretty interesting, and the next season or two as we see who we are going to become.

In Donovan and Rudy we trust.

I understand the logic of the OP, but our FO does not need to make a decision about the future based off a 6 game winning streak in February.

I still have these questions:
- Can Favors play much with Gobert in the playoffs?
- Can Exum stay healthy?
- Can Hood stay healthy?
- Can Favors stay healthy?
- Can Hood play enough quality D in the playoffs?
- Has Exum's shot improved enough?

I love how we are playing but just keeping this team intact seems like a goal with a shorter ceiling. Once we re-sign everybody as suggested, our chances to make change are more limited. It is very risky to re-sign a guy like Favors on a "bargain" $15 deal because he is another back injury away from being an anchor contract. Signing guys with the intention of trading is really risky.

I'm at a crossroads. I didn't like that Hood was made available a month ago. Like DasJazz said, we need guys like him. I just tend to believe there was something done or said behind the scenes.

We should be trying so hard to dump Burks. Include a couple 2nd rounders but get off his contract.

No. Jazz need another high scoring/starting caliber player.

For those times when, you know, they're not putting up all time franchise high efficiency numbers.

Here's a visual of what the Jazz salaries could look like next year if they kept everyone. I think it would definitely put the Jazz into the luxury tax. Jazz salaries.JPG

Are any of those numbers actually realistic though? I would guess that they all get more than that on the open market, possibly not Favors, but I think he gets at least 15. Hood probably about the same, and Exum... We'll have to see how he plays when he returns.
When is Exum expected to return??

Out-gunned then you pedantic mother-****er. They're not a contender.
Imagine being on a 6 game win streak in which you blow out the Warriors and beat two very good playoff teams on the road, then complain about not having enough talent.

Jazz honestly just need to sit on their hands, nail the ****ing draft, try to extend Rubio next year, then go 10000% in on getting Kawhi to sign in 2019.

I'd be shocked if Favors got that much. I honestly dont expect him back at all, but if he did, I would expect it at 10-12 million at most. I dont think the Jazz are going much above that. 2019 is where they are setting their sights. I wouldn't be surprised if they thought they had a shot a Kawhi Leonard.

I was thinking through this same scenario last night (signing them on the cheap for future value) but the road block I came to is agents sniff this out and realize this is a short term issue with the cap and they have their clients sign 2 year deals with the second being a player option.

It’s a gamble on their part (injury concerns) but one they likely make. If you get Hood or Favors on a deal like that there is a lot of uncertainty for a potential trade partner halfway through next season.

Hard to predict but I’d imagine we see some contracts like that this offseason.

If you wanna pay Rodney $17 million and get the 7th pick in the draft, who gets paid 4$ million, you are correct in that we will be paying the tax next year.
I put this together when their pick looked lower and rounded up. I still won't be one bit shocked if Rodney gets a $17 million offer sheet. You could give or take a few million on any of those salaries really I think.

I'm pretty certain Rodney will get $15+ and Favors $12+. There aren't that many buyers out there, but they are top 3-5 players at their positions this summer. Teams like Atlanta aren't going to wait for 2019 when they can get a bargain in 2018.

This is a good point. It still would be a tough decision though because you'd be turning down guaranteed money in hope for more money in the future. With the injury concerns of all 3 of the prospects, I think it unlikely for them to turn down guaranteed money as another injury would severely limit the next payday.

Been avoiding mentioning the name but BINGO.
