Reading Behind the Lines

You should be neg-repped for even posting anything about that hack, but you did it sardonically so I pos-repped you instead.

I especially like the photo-shopped pic designed to show Sloan as a crazy old man and Deron as the sly young traitor. Give me a break.

Wow, this one piece actually shows some insight. We sure Vecsey wrote this?

In no particular order, Utah missed 10 of 21 free throws and 7 of 8 from offshore, its bench was outscored 25-5, and, with the Jazz down 87-86, Williams mishandled two possessions in the final 1:08.

His mistakes — a swipe from behind and a reckless pass — were as pathetic and they were apathetic; no pained look or anger, whatsoever. Hardly what you expect, I submit, from arguably the league’s premier point guard.

Does Vescey ever watch a game or look at stats? That prehistoric offense has been one of the most efficient year in and year out for a long time.

This was pretty subdued relative to the debacle, and the writer.

Which is telling as to just how bad it truly is, when even Vescey can't truly sensationalize it.

I've listened to the interviews, the comments, and read what the commentators had to say. Sure, Jerry had had enough. But I think it's pretty clear that a mutiny was in progress led by Deron and Jerry just did not want to deal with it any longer.

As reported and as we read in various interviews prior to this, Deron was directly confronting and questioning Sloan's decisions. This never happened before with Karl, John, or AK, who had their differences but never questioned Sloan's authority. I doubt that the story of him wanting to suspend Deron being overruled is true, but who knows. Anyone out there have more information on this?

In any case, it probably was time for a change, though I wonder if doing it midseason is in the best interests of the team ... time will tell.

Furthermore, knowing how the franchise values loyalty and how close the Millers are to Jerry, I think Deron is probably on a close leash now and it wouldn't surprise me if they try to trade him if they can find another point guard and get equal value back.

sorry, write4u, I was half expecting you to say that One Hop was behind all this recent drama...

You're an ace detective, and I expected a little better from you - any other theories? or do we continue to rehash the current ones?

....in yet another thread....

Then merge with the Vecsey thread, though I wrote it before I read that one. I said "behind" because everyone associated with Utah is denying this, trying to cover this up. Note, Raja's interview, for instance. And I think management isn't exactly thrilled with Deron who obviously instigated it, though I don't believe it was his intention that Sloan retire.

I'll merge.

Chicago's ESPN station just did a lengthy phone interview with Kyle Korver. If I can find a link, I'll post. Essentially, he said Sloan is a great coach, yes there were disagreements but no more so than is usual in player/coach relations, this totally took him by surprise. He and Brewer and Deron all had dinner the night before the game, had a great time, hardly talked about basketball at all. He said if this had been a simmering issue, he's pretty certain it would have come up in their dinner conversation. He feels badly that Deron seems to be getting blamed for Sloan's decision, he talked to Deron last night and told him to lay low and let some of the emotions settle down.

Deron really just wants his posse around him. If his boys were still on this team, I think this would be a non issue. He was fine untill last season when we started dumping young assests for trash. I really dont blame him for being pissed, but if he did run out Sloan it makes him a pretty ****** person. Regardless the damage has been done, I cant imagine Jazz brass are thrilled with Dwill and Dwill is so pouty that he wont be happy labled as the scape goat and blame brass for not protecting his rep. I fear the Dwill Era will be coming to an end sooner than later.
