Gennessy tweeted that DL said they tried hard to acquire a first round pick but weren't able to. So I guess that just confirms what Burke's value is.

Jody gennesy: "Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey said the organization tried hard but was unable to acquire a second first-round pick."

Oh, well in that case okay.

Atleast I can still wait for dr. Jones to break that Jazz/ Kentucky news. Maybe tomorrow?

Didn't know that only 2nd round picks drafted by Utah count as 2nd round picks. My bad.

People were freaking out about Jazz trading down in the second round, not even fully giving up a pick. You can cherry pick a few players that worked out, but all I said that the success rate of second rounders is low. Yes, over the years the Jazz have had about a dozen guys from the second round contribute. In the last 30 years, they have had 5 or 6 good picks, which is probably a much better success rate than average.

I never said that second rounders won't be good, I said the success rate is really low. Getting money to move down 13 picks really isn't a big deal. Chances are Jazz may have picked the same 3 guys anyway.

So when the draft grades come out tomorrow will the Jazz get credit for drafting Tauren prince and "trying real hard" to acquire a 1st round pick?

I must admit that there is a part of me that would like to be snarky and rail on Lindsey. Mostly it's the part of me that enjoys the entertainment of the draft. And that part of me is kind of tired and kind of disappointed.

The rational part of me knows I should waite and see what is announced on July 1.

I think the snarky part of me can wait until then.

DL told Jodie that "we have a few things to announce in the future as well".

So I think the July 1 announcement isn't totally out of the question.

When the Spurs drafted Dejounte Murray, I was assuming it was for the Jazz. ╮(╯▽╰)╭

Worst part of the entire draft.

I think I've seen this film before, Jazz draft a pg, Spurs draft a similar pg. Jazz pg gets injured and never reaches his potential. The Spurs pg becomes a multiple time all star.

Overall it was a pretty meh draft but I am excited for Thon Maker and the Bucks. Milwaukee sure have the big b@lls to pull off another surprise just like they did with Giannas.

That makes me think GMs weren't trying as hard to unload picks as was reported by some folks.

Hard to say if those expectations were truly there among teams (not just reporters) before the draft, but once the middle and end of the first round picks became more or less inverted, there was little incentive for a team late in the first to unload picks. And we didn't have the assets to go into the mid-first. Trey plus 100 late second-rounders weren't going to get us there.

So, the Jazz don't really draft anyone in a crappy draft?

Good. We needed three things:

Starting PG - check
Starting wing
Backup vet Big who can hopefully hit a three

No one in the draft filled out remaining needs. I like what happened tonight. The Jazz offseason has gone very well so far.

Aren't Hayward and Hood our starting wings?

Plus when we re-sign Hill and Exum is ready, Hill is also a starting SG material.

Then there's Burks also.

IMO there's plenty of wings...
