Realistic Free Agent Targets??

With "sources" saying Hayward "wants better talent around him" and DL saying "we plan on being very active in the free-agent market.”

Who will be some targets for us to go after that are realistic options for us?

Here are the SF and SGs that averaged 10 pts and 5 rebounds per game.

Batum, Bazemore and Hamilton would look nice in our lineup. Maybe Hamilton or Deng are the most realistic targets.

- Hamilton struggles at the FT line and is not very effective from 3. I wonder if Deng would consider Utah.

Here is another listing of scoring and shooting percentages.

Utah has two good backcourt scorers now, if we can keep Burks on the court. I would think Orlando wants to hang onto Fournier.

A Burke for Jeramie Grant swap would get me giddy

If Jazz signed Motiejunas ,he'd actually play since he's got some skillz ,Withey just sits on the bench gathering splinters.
A 2nd unit of Motiejunas,Lyles, Ingles,Burks,GHill would be pretty good

I like Locke's suggestion of getting better by improving the #1 player at a position rather than looking for an upgrade at the 4th or 5th spot. It makes sense to me, but I realize bringing in a starter of higher quality is not easy. I like what Lindsey is doing, lets see what happens.

The "top down" mentality is something that needs to start happening in Utah. Jazz brass need to stop being afraid to pursue top free agent targets and just go after them. It only takes one to like the pitch in order for everyone to start looking at the whole organization in a different light. I feel like the Jazz have some good vibes going right now, and trying to add a top level free agent is the next step. DL hasn't done anything in free agency yet, but I think that's been by design due to the tank and subsequent player development phase. If the Jazz wanted to, they could potentially free up about $40 million for player acquisitions this offseason.

Most fans expect little to nothing in free agency, but I feel like DL and the Millers are smart enough to realize that spending money to be a playoff and (hopefully) contending team makes for a much more successful and profitable team.

Montiejunas and Lyles would get killed on defense and on the boards

I'd like to see the Jazz offer a 1 year max deal to on of the following players(in order of my preference):

Barnes
Parsons
Beal
Batum
Fournier
Deng

This has the potential to be mutually beneficial to both the Jazz and the player. We keep some financial flexibility next offseason so we can re-sign Hayward. The cap goes up again next year and any of these guys (except maybe Deng) could be better off in the long-term to wait another year to sign a long-term deal.

They would likely be a one year rental, which is why we'd have to overpay, but could put us in a really good spot this year to make some noise in the playoffs. The potential depth chart would be (for Barnes, Parsons, or Deng):

Gobert(30)/Favors(18)
Favors(12)/Lyles(24)/Barnes(12)
Barnes(18)/Hood(26)/Hayward(4)
Hayward(26)/Burks(22)/Exum
Exum(22)/Hill(26)

Deng would likely get closer to 24 MPG and some of his minutes would get distributed to Hood and Burks.

The potential depth chart with Beal, Batum, Fournier would be:

Gobert(30)/Favors(18)
Favors(12)/Lyles(24)/Hayward(12)
Hayward(18)/Hood(26)/Burks(4)
Beal(30)/Burks(18)/Exum
Exum(22)/Hill(26)

Fournier would be the same as Deng - a few less minutes with minutes being given to Hood and Burks.

I would make Atlanta match on Mike Muscala. Long been a fan of his. Decent defender, shooter and rebounder, good passer. Can play the 4 and 5.
