Reasoning behind Hayward's late game problems tonight

Poor dude played 20 straight minutes, on his 3rd game back from injury. He was still defending too well to be subbed out, sadly.

If he hit those any of those last couple of shots, I think we would have won the game.

Still, it would be stupid to be upset at the player who single-handedly got us in the game to begin with. Tremendous performance by him nonetheless, just wish that he would have been given a break by Ty at some point in the 4th.

Also, to whoever says that "Hayward always has problems in the clutch", well, you're heavily mistaken. Last season that was true; this season, he has his performances against Miami, Dallas, and Sacramento to shut ya'll up.

Anywho.

switching from a ball movement orientated offensive system with pick and rolls
to a stand around and dup it down to al jefferson alfense orientated "basketball" system

Side Note: Doc Rivers told the Trib that his staff makes fun of him for
his man crush on Gordon Hayward'. Don't have the link handy.

Add him to the list of Dirk, Zen, Kobe, Chuck, Kenny, etc.

The Celtics tightened up the defense, put their best defender on Hayward and played the high screen-and-roll very tight.

Thats whats wrong with Corbins line ups. He brings in our best players late in the third and then figures out we need them to win, and has to keep them in ,but by then they are tired. He just needs to adjust the starting line up and this won't happen.

The Celtics got real physical with him...to the point of probably getting away with fouling him...and he didn't handle it well at all. Plus he was probably gassed. Simple as that.

Hahaha. Simply not true.

An NBATV analyst in the post-game correctly mentioned how Utah lacked a go-to player in crunch-time, and SPECIFICALLY were running pick and rolls against one of the best P&R defending teams in the NBA.

How many times did Al touch the ball in the 4th quarter + OT again? I think he had one solid touch, in which he actually scored. Same with Millsap.

Gordon Hayward has played well for Utah since returning from a right shoulder sprain. He’s scored 40 points in his two games back after missing 10 straight contests. He had a game-high 23 in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday. He also has a big fan in Rivers. “Hayward has been one of my favorites for a while,” Rivers said. “The staff laughs and say I have a man crush. I just like the way he plays. He’s a bright kid with skill and IQ. He’s athletic. He’s getting better and better.” https://tbt.blogs.nba.com/

1. Tired legs
2. Not getting calls he was getting earlier in game
3. Settling for bad jumpers because of reason 2

Cyrone: Bad jumpers???

Simply not true. It was either taking a wide-open 19 footer that he would have normally hit, or spending another 8 seconds on the clock trying to find an open Al. No other plays were working.

I didn't see him struggling to get calls at all.

Honestly, it was tired legs and arms, and missing shots he normally makes.

While it's true the Jazz deviated from the norm and went to screen-roll down the stretch more often than post-ups for Al - they did try to get the ball to Al several times and KG successfully denied him the ball (precisely how Joakim Noah fronted Al in the post in crunchtime of the Feb-8 loss to Chicago), so Burks&Hayward were left to try and get something off-the-dribble w/the shotclock winding down under 10-seconds rather than running a screen-roll from a position of strength.

I definitely think this is where the coaching staff is beginning to focus their efforts on. Both Hayward and Burks are being taught the pick and roll. I think the defining moment of this season is whether we will have a consistent half-court offense other than feeding it to Al in the post. If any single other player can rise to the occasion and give us either a solid plan b, or even make 'Alfense' plan B, I think our season will end up much differently.

I blame Coach for playing him 20 straight minutes when he was playing well. He should've known that this was going to be a tight game & need G-Time in the clutch!!

The Jazz would have won this game had they played the typical Jeffyball in the last 5 minutes.

There wouldn't have been a clutch if Hayward sat.

Your playoff preview.

Morris Almond went off for 33 in the DLeague last night for the LA Defenders. It's all Morris' fault. If he would have stuck the Jazz would have won last night.

Its all BS, in the last three minutes, the Jazz were a three man team on offense. Burks would bring the ball up, and either get pinned on the wings, or pass it to Hayward, who would then get pinned down on the wings. Then Millsap would come and try to help while Al sat there and waited for someone to throw him the ball, not moving more than 18 inches the whole play. Demarre would sit on the other side opposite of Al, and the only one trying to do anything or make any cuts was millsap, while the other guard, Hayward or Burks would try to get open. The celtics basically had to play against Burks, Hayward, and Millsap, making it an easy 5 on 3 game. It is like this at the end of most close games this year. It looks to me like Corbin calls a play for Al, the other team sees this and shuts down the passing lanes, and everyone but Millsap sits there until Hayward or Foye take a desperation shot at the end of the clock. Its like an infant is coaching the end of the game.

to me it seemed like the classic dump it to al play.
only celtics knew how to defend it.
and since the dump it to al play beigns and ends with dumping it to al. there was no plan b
