I'm ashamed to be in the same profession as Conan. He's bugging me and I want to kick the **** out of him but admittedly, probably couldn't so I'd just kick him in the nuts and run instead.
I know how Mormons talk about non-Mormons
Believe it or not, there is a difference between "slamming' some of the behavior of members of the church and actually slamming the church itself.
Do you expect Conan to understand that distinction?
The distinction is between members of the church and the church itself. Where did I slam the church? The issue is stereotyping, which you think people who tend to get stereotyped a lot would avoid. The quote above has no qualifier like "most" or "some". It implies ALL mormons talk badly about non-mormons. So in this case Conan was right, that is a pretty broad sweeping judgement/generalization.

I don't see GVC making that distinction.Believe it or not, there is a difference between "slamming' some of the behavior of members of the church and actually slamming the church itself.
This.So you can stereotype the people all you want, making jackass blanket claims (that are patently false) that all mormons talk badly about non-mormons as long as you don't slam the church itself? I am sure you love to be stereotyped the same way, right?
Nice hypocrisy there.
Saying "Same ol Sunday School ****" is not a slam on the people and if you meant it to be you failed miserably. The distinction is between members of the church and the church itself. Where did I slam the church?
Get in line.I'm ashamed to be in the same profession as Conan. He's bugging me and I want to kick the **** out of him but admittedly, probably couldn't so I'd just kick him in the nuts and run instead.
Dang I read just part of this thread and people are having a hard time!
I am a biology major, so I guess you can say I am a man of science.
After watching this video I converted to Islam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJiPTCtAPAY&feature=fvst
Islam only religion with no scientific error, only religion to suggest marrying one wife (gives limit of four, but is ONLY one that says you should marry one if you can't treat fair AND wife approves), only religion to give women inheritance rights, Really the only religion that gives god all the glory, no pictures/statues worshipping jesus, buddha, Joseph Smith etc.
If someone can find one scientific error in Koran I will become an Atheist (Bible has over 10,000 like Dragonfly's have 4 leggs, stars are small objects that can fall, and the sky cannot be penetrated).
People attribute the miracles of the Koran to that science was advanced back then. Not true, Arabs become advanced AFTER the Koran, not before. The Koran said that Muslims will conquer Constantinople. 1/5th of the Koran is about science and none of it is contradicted.
Religion is not a buffet. You cannot take parts of it and leave the rest.
I never said any of that. I was only responding to a specific accusation Conan made. Your time of the month? So you can stereotype the people all you want, making jackass blanket claims (that are patently false) that all mormons talk badly about non-mormons as long as you don't slam the church itself? I am sure you love to be stereotyped the same way, right?

I know how Mormons talk about non-Mormons, I've been there, and it bugs the hell out of me because it's often inaccurate, condescending and dismissive. Shameful.
I never said any of that. I was only responding to a specific accusation Conan made. Your time of the month?
Where did I say I wasn't making a generalization? It is exactly what you claimed not to have said.
No question there are some tool Mormons in that context. I don't think it's as rampant as you think it is and I don't think it's fair to generalize that behavior across a whole religion. That's the beef here. I can count on one hand the times I've heard a Mormon legitimately make broad generalizations about non-Mormons. Not saying those folks don't exist. Maybe there's a bunch of em but I doubt it. I don't even think they're a vocal minority. I haven't run into them much at all. But you're welcome to your opinion on that but I think it's pretty slamming to just paint the whole group like you have. Smacks of some serious bitterness. And, just for fun, do either of you disagree with me? Is it uncommon to hear Mormons making unfair generalizations about non-Mormons in church? Is it uncommon for Mormons to make the distinction between the membership and the church (that is, something along the lines of "the church is perfect, but the members aren't")? I didn't say anything particularly inflammatory about the church (or its members). In fact, the only direct statement I made about the church in this thread was complimentary.
meh.
Dude your time of the month is anytime you post. Granted the Internet doesn't translate well but you sure come across as aggravated a lot of the time. You don't seem that way in person so it's probably just an Internet thing.Your time of the month?
