Yeah, pretty much.So here is the full history of the Ryan Smith rebranding. Please feel free to correct any of my misremembering (connecting the dots in italics):
Ryan Smith buys the Jazz and then takes on Dwayne Wade as a minority stakes owner. Wade asks Ryan what color he should be wearing to the games because he is too cool to just wear the official gear and Ryan doesn't know what to tell him because our current jerseys are an array of colors. Ryan decided that he wants the Jazz to have a more simple color scheme and a color that nobody else has, and so he decides to move forward with highlighter yellow. Ryan shares this idea with his yes men and they tell him how genius his idea so they decide to move forward with the design. Ryan then leak the jersey designs and the feedback is overwhelmingly negative.
Unfortunately it's too late to change the design because of contracts and so he scrambles to put something out there that people will actually like in order to soften the blow and is able to use the throwback purple mountain jerseys because they have already been designed. The nostalgia from the Final era teams is well received and so now all Ryan thinks Jazz fans want is purple and mountains. More jerseys are developed to replace old jerseys, but because of contractual obligations as well as the slowness from the design and production companies the roll out is slow. As they come out with new Jerseys Ryan decides that all of the new jerseys have to be connected by the mountain logo. Everyone declares him a genius because of his high level branding acumen.
Ryan Smith then buys an NHL franchise and decides to just have the Utah logo while he completes a survey to name the team. Ryan likes the Utah logo for the NHL team so much that he decides the Jazz should only have Utah as well. This also sets him up to do another fan survey in the future to rename the team.
Dont forget Ryan lying to everyone by saying something along the lines of "Our data tells us the yellow is the most popular jersey"So here is the full history of the Ryan Smith rebranding. Please feel free to correct any of my misremembering (connecting the dots in italics):

Yeah, it just infuriates me. I get that "Utah Jazz" doesnt make sense at all, BUT THATS THE POINT!!! LEAN INTO IT!I apologize in advanced to anybody who is in marketing, but this whole jersey fiasco reminds me of all of the eye roll inducing meetings I've had with the different marketing teams I've interfaced with over my career. They always think that people care about stuff that is really only important to them. I can just picture the meeting where they decided to have mountains on everything:
"the mountains are our brand essence and help to connect our theme so that all of our jerseys are congruent."
"That is so genius, you are amazing."
"What if we transitioned out of the note logo by super imposing the note with the mountain?"
- All Jaws Drop to the ground and cheering erupts -
"This puts us up for the marketing equivalence of an Oscar"
I really hope the downtown revitalization doesn't end up going as sloppy and directionless as the Jazz brand revitalization. So here is the full history of the Ryan Smith rebranding. Please feel free to correct any of my misremembering (connecting the dots in italics):

Like, just trade the Jazz name to the Pelicans if you arent going to embrace it.
Yeah, it cost so much money to change the name that it will probably never happen, but it's just odd how much they are choosing to move away from it.I don't really think we are going to change our name, but I think there is a way higher probability now than I ever have.
These and the powder blues are probably the worst all time (for the Jazz).Speaking of broccoli, my faves have always been the green iterations.
Check these out. Nice color scheme, note on shorts, no nonsense lettering.

Agree about the powder blues. These and the powder blues are probably the worst all time (for the Jazz).
This is a reminder, one I shouldn't need, on how people can interpret the same thing differently. I didn't think of it as moving away, but just the current iteration of the redesign. Could even be the TBD upcoming 4th jersey, will say Jazz.Yeah, it cost so much money to change the name that it will probably never happen, but it's just odd how much they are choosing to move away from it.
Just too many jerseys these days. IMHO it was good enough with the home and away ones and an occasional one here and there.Hmm, fair enough.
Counter: 95% (100%?) of the league has worse jerseys today than they did a few decades ago.
ThisI’ll go to my grave insisting that the J-Note is one of the all-time coolest logos across the sporting landscape...
And this.Sadly, they massively ****ed up what could have been a home run with the black uni’s. Like you said, just embrace the J-Note awesomeness ....
Impossible to do a better description.... Giving us a new black mountain uni and slapping the J-Note over it looks like someone was editing in photoshop, never got back to a half finished idea, and decided “screw it, we’re outta time.”
All I remember is Ryan being pretty clear that he did not like the Jazz colors and was going to fix it. I think there was time to reverse it when it was initially leaked but the Jazz big whigs seemed to believe we would all see the light. Be they time it was clear that it was a train wreck it was too late. My favorite are the yellow sweatshirts that say Purple is Back.So here is the full history of the Ryan Smith rebranding. You have lots of company. One of the best logo's in the entire league. I do think Ryan is moving toward changing the name. I have read speculation on it and this rebranding seems headed that way. He is all about building the image of Utah and the mountains and a name other than Jazz are consistent with that logic.I for one miss the Notes.
