Rebrand?

You have lots of company. One of the best logo's in the entire league. I do think Ryan is moving toward changing the name. I have read speculation on it and this rebranding seems headed that way. He is all about building the image of Utah and the mountains the a name other than Jazz are consistent with that logic.
Oh no, so we’re becoming the Utah Mountains?

I apologize in advanced to anybody who is in marketing, but this whole jersey fiasco reminds me of all of the eye roll inducing meetings I've had with the different marketing teams I've interfaced with over my career. They always think that people care about stuff that is really only important to them. I can just picture the meeting where they decided to have mountains on everything:

"the mountains are our brand essence and help to connect our theme so that all of our jerseys are congruent."

"That is so genius, you are amazing."

"What if we transitioned out of the note logo by super imposing the note with the mountain?"

- All Jaws Drop to the ground and cheering erupts -

"This puts us up for the marketing equivalence of an Oscar"
We had some marketing guru come in and help this big firm I’m affiliated with come in and do a rebrand and some training stuff. It was all I could do not to openly laugh at how much these folks like the sound of their own voices and how dumb their **** was. They were masters at talking for a long time and saying nothing.

Lol, it always feels like they are trying to justify their existence. "Please come to our hour long power point presentation meeting to discuss how we revolutionized our business by adding a blue accent to our company logo."

Is it really that big of a deal that the jerseys say Utah instead of Jazz to people?

I don’t feel most of these people have enough self-awareness to realize they’d have to justify their existence.

Anyone who hasn’t done the real labor isn’t aware that they’re not doing work.

The literally stacked all these letters together from the firm name in an unrecognizable logo and made a 10 minute video about it. I few of us looked around and were like “I got in the wrong business”.

I’ll have to give this a listen later but it’s not exactly reassuring…

”I’ll never forget my first preseason game,” Smith said. “One of the GMs from the Pelicans came up and said, ‘Can we have that name back?’ I didnt know what to say. You guys have the Saints, that’s probably more appropriate here. Why don’t we just do a swap?”

It was clearly a light-hearted conversation stemming from the history between New Orleans, Utah, and the NBA.

However, it raises an interesting question. What if the Pelicans were actually interested in getting the Jazz name back?

Unfortunately for the Crescent City, Utah is too attached to the name at this point.

“There’s nothing wrong with our Jazz history,” Smith said. “Our Jazz history is incredible and you’ve got people who are a part of different portions of it.”

Smith went on to acknowledge that the Jazz name isn’t the best fit for the state.

But, what matters is the people have welcomed the team since its arrival in 1979 and have grown to love Mountain Basketball.

“The Jazz brand is definitely a trickier one than many in the NBA,” Smith said. “If you look at Boston or Chicago or San Antonio, these are very different than coming from New Orleans and (already) having a name.”

Any answer other than “we’re the Jazz and you can go **** yourself” is the wrong answer. This is some weak ****.

They should've made the black jersey the old school note spelled out Jazz in white. That would've been sick behind that mountain overlay of the uniform. Still a nice jersey nonetheless.

Not a fan of the black. Otherwise the purple and white are drastically better than the highlighter yellow. Seems odd to me that the Jazz name isn’t on the uniform. Wish they’d do a variegated purple and blue similar to the variegated yellow and orange city edition that was so popular a few years back. I loved those uniforms. Really think a blue/purple version would sell well.
