What's new

Reggie Jackson's year

Realistically DL took a long hard look at Jackson's numbers when Westbrook was out early last year. Jackson's numbers were good, but he was turning the ball over at a huge rate and they went 4-11 with him as their main PG. Then DL weighed in the fact Jackson would be asking for a max and decided he wasn't worth trading any major assets for. I'd imagine that was the thought process.

But trading for worthless trash was worth trading a "major asset"? Also, the Thunder weren't going to just replace a top-ten player AND have no backup to Jackson without any drop off in performance.

In this case, Jackson. I'll give it a whirl. Because he's the type of player who'd neither fit in the system we have here nor our long terms plans. Let's say we signed him. Then we'd have had Exum, Jackson, Burks, Hood and Hayward at the 1-3 all of whom need major time. Except that's less than 29 minutes per game for each of them. And not even including Trey Burke. We have enough talent on the wings. It's just that Exum is hurt and Hood began the year playing ****ty. What we certainly do need is a better big. Withey looks better game by game but he's really just a 4th or 5th big and shouldn't be getting more than about 8-12 minutes a night imo.

I agree with this quite a bit. The problem is, the Jazz need tradable assets. Something to put on the table when calling other teams. They are historically bad at acquiring anything other than "jazz type players", and thus horrible at asset management.

They could have dumped Trey in the deal, could have gotten something from Detroit for him as well most likely.

Jackson is on a pretty reasonable contract for his production and position. $15mm next season out of a projected $89-90mm isn't bad at all.

Still waiting for an I told you so from SirKicky on this one.

Yes, but his play with OKC last year would not have warranted anything near that contract. He was a 15 PER, .511 TS player with OKC. So those were the numbers DL was looking at, once he was traded to Detroit he improved, and was no longer available.

We could have signed Jackson to a max and traded him this year. He would be a great trade piece.

Jackson would of signed with Utah too as a free agent. I personally know the kid. Talked to him about this last season. He likes to play with big guys who can crash the boards and play defense sincehe is a scoring point guard. His family is in the Springs which wouldof been nice for him. He is a laid back good kid off the court too and would of fit in well since yall like clean cut guys on your team. From a military family. Comparing Kanter to Jackson just because of some attitude is insane. Kanter cant play and is garbage. Jackson can actually hoop.

Icant wait for Exum to bust already so I can add another "I was right" under my belt.. Aussies playing basketball? HAHA your just competeting for 2nd place with Canada in the bball poll.. Come Olympic time USA will dominate like usual and yes another gold medal. Next 20 years its USA and then Canada, Aussie competing for silver and bronze... Exum starting for Aussie, Well wow that is scaring nba players from being on team usa..lol. They want no part of the dangerous ganme iof Exum. Exum is all hype still people so stop acting like he is a superstar and you should make your roster to adjust for him. Some of you would fail in the business world

Now that I know that the two of you know each other I'm really glad he didn't come to the Jazz. Other than that I would have been more than happy to see him here.

because Jackson has proven he can play at this level and Exum has not.. How about that reason? Exum has proven what so far in the NBA?

That he makes one of the top defensive teams considerably better?

Look at how we;ve been getting killed by PGs this year. With Dante that doesn't just not happen, we gain above average defense against the very best PGs. That's HUGE!

Are you capable of admitting to your very many "I was wrong"s?

Give me a break. Exum was a 19 rookie. Jackson is 25. It isn't about whether or not Jackson can play. I like Jackson. It's about if you would pay him 14 or 15 million a year to potentially be your backup PG. Like it or not, the Jazz are committed to Exum. And despite your assertions there is no guarantee he would have re-signed in Utah or that the Jazz would have matched an $80m offer. Would he be worth that amount of money to the Jazz? If we gave Trey Burke 32 minutes a night and 17 shots he would probably put up the same numbers.

You do know we can always trade a player that doesn't fit in, right? You do know the majority of our players don't really have any trade vaule, right?

Jackson and Burke shooting percentages are almost identical from the floor.

So your brilliant GM philosophy would be to pay a guy 15M a year and then if he doesn't fit in (which would presumably mean he sucks for us), just trade him as if so many teams would a guy at 15M a year even though he's been ****ty and hasmany years left on his deal.

You're a genius.

Try to navigate through my typos. The site doesn't let me edit from my phone for some reason.

The better-case scenario is it works very well. The worse-case is you trip and get nothing out the asset you trade away.

On the other hand, you could just get squat (the worse-case) from the get-go and not have to worry about whether something will go well or not?

I guess I kind of get that. But only kind of.
