I think he did alright for himself last season, acquiring additional assets, trading up and then back in to get a couple of decent players in a draft very weak on talent. No, I'm not a very big Burke fan, but even I can admit it's probably a wash between Trey and MCW in that draft spot. And while Plumlee had a nice rookie season, Gobert is the one player in the late first would could be a real impact player.

I really like what Lindsey has done so far for the Jazz. I still mostly trust him, which is the reason I tend to think these rumors are BS.

I think the deal is either/or. If they want Alec, they don't get the #5 pick.
Jack's contract is expensive, but not a killer. He's a good backup and is about at the MLE.
 
Dennis Lindsey & the Jazz brass are straight jacket crazy if they pull the trigger on this deal. Whether it's Wiggins or Parker, I figure odds are only one of them will be bonafide star and to give up Favors (a top 5 defensive player at his position in his early 20's), Alec Burks (who could potentially develop into a Dwyane Wade type of scorer) AND the fifth pick, AND a potential future unprotected first or #23 is criminally insane. Everyone on our roster the last few years has been used incorrectly on the offensive & defensive end and I don't think we have ANY idea how good our young lottery picks will be until they have a competent head coach, which we're hoping Quin Synder will be. We would be much better off taking a guy with high upside with skills that can help us immediately, a guy like Aaron Gordon.
 
i would do this deal... and while alec burks is by far my favorite player on this team... i would pull the trigger no hesitation.
 
I lean toward doing it. I'm fully in the camp that thinks we need to do damn near anything we can do land Wiggins or Parker. We can get role players in the draft or free agency. Its next to impossible for us to get a star via free agencies, and not likely we will have another shot at drafting one any time soon.
 
Of course the Cavs should pull the trigger on a deal like that. But not before an attempt to get more out of the Jazz.

You are so overstating Favor's defensive contribution

Favors was net negative for both PF and Center. He (a top 5 defensive player?) per36 allowed his direct opponent to score 17 pts on 56%efg, and grab 12rebs.

He had a def rating of 107.

to compare:

M Gasol - defRtg - 98
Hibbert - defRtg - 98
Ibaka - defRtg - 102


in fact if you go by defRtg, among any forward or Center that played at least 20mpg, derrick was the 56th best defensive big. Favor's contribution could easily be replaced by Asik, or Gortat, who could both be had this summer.

Interesting listen. They at first said Favors + 5 was a great deal for the Cavs. Then there was the talk of sweeteners Burks and/or 23. But that's too much for me. Favors + 5, Ok. If they insist on more then just stay at 5 and grab Gordon. I love Gordon.

I'm smelling another tank year. The Jazz have totally poisoned the well for Favors here now. They have to pull the trigger.

This. I'm not sure if its because of bad parts around him or a bad scheme, but he doesn't seem to have the effect a defensive player should. One caveat... only takes one player on the court to miss a rotation and there is nothing much others can do.

I know this if Favors was one of the five best we shouldn't have had the worst defense in the league.

This is the kind of deal you do for an ESTABLISHED star.
What did NY give up for Carmelo? Essentially Gallinari, Chandler and an unprotected 1st. They also shipped out Felton and Mozgov, but got back Billups and some throw-ins
Carmelo was an ESTABLISHED all-star. Gallinari and Chandler are nice players (around 13 and 15 pts/per), but I'd say Burks and Favors are more than equal. Favors has even more value as a center on a terrific contract. So yes, giving up those players PLUS a guaranteed #5 is paying more than what Denver gave up for Carmelo.

What did NJ give up for Deron? Again, a proven all-star. Arguably one of the top-3 PG's in the league at the time. Favors (who was an underachieving #3 pick) and two uncertain first rounders plus a mid-level player in Harris. Utah really has no one comparable to Harris. Maybe a guy like Marvin Williams (but he's not signed). So Utah gives up two starter-quality players in Burks and Favors PLUS an all-star potential #5 pick PLUS future assets?


This deal, as currently proposed, is wildly in the favor of Cleveland. If they need to deal and use Utah to also dump 1-2 bad contracts (Jack, Varejao or Bennett), Utah should give up LESS!

I told you 4 first round picks is more sane. Brutal yes, but better for us.
