Report Card Time (team grades)

I think Rodney Hood should get a grade. He's a C- to me. He was always "injured" and played very streaky.

Ya I considered giving hood and jj a grade.
C- sounds right to me. For both of em

DL also added Rubio for peanuts.

IMO, the Jazz are a dynamic SF away from being contenders (after the Warriors are broken up) and most guys can see that in the making.

I hope they make the playoffs and show out well there so that it becomes even more obvious to everyone that they’re headed to contending status.

Should open up more opportunities to add talent here in the next few offseasons.

People are still kvetching about the Mirotic non-trade? He's been shooting 30% from 3 since the trade lol..... cmon ya'll. You wanted to give up a first for a guy on an unprecedented hot streak
I’d consider trading for him this offseason for a lot less than the Pels paid to get him as a one year rental to replace Jerebko. Mirotic hasn’t looked anything like a guy worthy of the 15th pick in the draft. Outside of that, I’d probably just keep Jerebko for one more season. He’s done fine in his role and can tag-team with Thabo again next year if needed.

Nice post Fish.

However, I’d elevate Jonas to a solid “B”. Early in the season, the guy would go stretches of games without ever getting off the bench, yet always kept himself ready. I honestly feel like the Jazz got more out of him this year than even they expected. He also has the hottest Jazz wife in the history of the franchise and that CANNOT be overlooked.

I don't think I'd give DL anything higher than a B for the season. Here's how I'd grade him out:

Drafting: A+
Free Agency: C
Trading: B

I still think Quin has done a masterful job with a fairly flawed roster. Obviously the Mitchell pick was franchise-altering, but that's really all he's done this year that was a home-run.
You think that little of Mitchell, hmmm? Wasn't he traded for for nothing more then Lyles and the 24th pick in the draft, then we traded Hood for three years of Crowder on a great contract, ****ing A+++++. We let a wanna be star leave and picked up a possible top 5 player in the future

Forgot about the Rubio trade. That was ****ing great too!!

Ya I’m a big fan of Jonas. I often think he should get pt over crowder. Then again I really prefer crowder at the 4 rather than the 3 and Jonas can’t play the 3 and crowder needs to get minutes somewhere. And crowder has the higher ceiling so I guess ya have to go with him.
But ya, jerebko has done all that we asked of him and then some.

I would give Mitchell an A-, he has been great in many aspects but I want his understanding of the game to get better. When his 3pt shot isn't going then take it to the basket or pass it to an open teammate. Needs to watch turnovers late in the game.

Exum, I would give a B, he has played well but his sample size is too small.

Crowder, his grade is a C+ for me. He needs to know when he isn't making shots to move and pass the ball.

Rudy Gobert - gets an A- for me simply because he is Rudy Gobert. Watching him play defense against Minnesota was like watching a true artist perform. Rudy doesn't complain about not getting a lot of shots either. He plays hard on defense and should be the DPOY.

Derrick Favors - B+- almost an A- minus, when Favors plays well the Jazz are a far better team. Doesn't complain and his offense is overrated.

Jingles - gets an A from me especially most recent games. Best passer on the team, plays great defense and is more aggressive offensively. Besides he is the player that gets under other players skin.

Rubio- has played out of his mind lately. Was really bad at the beginning but I think he was just adjusting to have a new team. Still needs to work on his chemistry with Rudy, but I give him an A for improving his shot and working his butt off on defense.

O'neal - D on offense and an A- on defense so I give him a C+ overall.
Thabo - better than expected, sucks that he got hurt, I give him a B+.

Udoh- A on defense and a C- on offense. He always seems to play well when he plays.
Jereko - I give a B-, for the most part he delivers when he plays.

You would have traded Hayward in the middle of the season when we were playing great, for a draft pick when there was no reason to assume that we didn’t have a good chance of keeping him???? Really??

Good cheap contracts giving us good minutes. What free agents would have been better pickups at similar deals?
Lol. No reason to assume we didn't have a good chance at keeping him? No reason? Really? Are you trolling?

All grades are relative to my expectations for each individual player.

DL: He traded for Mitchell and signed solid players: A+

Quin: The team is playing really good : A

Mitchell: He is the best rookie in this draft class : A+

Gobert: He is still a god, but missed a lot of games: A

Rubio: He is the best, but had a bad January: A-

Favors: Favors is really nice: B+

Ingles: He does more but still shoots really great: A+

Exum: He got injured for nearly the whole year but has been great lately : B+

Hood: He scored a lot and won us some games we probably wouldnt have won otherwise during the low point without Gobert. Still got injured, but was overall good: B-

Thabo: He was really good then he got injured : B

Royce O'Neale: Probably our best perimeter defender, but has gotten sloppy lately: B-

Jae Crowder: He is cool and fits personality wise, but he is pretty mediocre as a shooter and just OK as a defender: B-

Jerebko: He is OK and a better shooter than I'd thought he be: B-

Udoh: Great defender and terrible on offense, better than I expected: B+

Neto: Neto was good: B-

Burks: He had a good little run, but other than that has been mostly bad. Thought he might take a bit of step this year. D+

Bradley: Doesnt play : C

Joe Johnson: He was really bad: F

Lol. No reason to assume we didn't have a good chance at keeping him? No reason? Really? Are you trolling?
If the Jazz doubted they could keep him, then the whole league probably doubted they could keep him. If the rumors were true that everyone knew he was heading to Boston, then he wouldnt have had much, if any, trade value.

Lindsey did the best he could in the summer having to wait for Hayward's manifesto to go to press.
I give hin a B for his indeciveness at the deadline. You either go for it, or you dont. He messed up not trading a pick for Mirotic. Could have got that deal done before Cousins got hurt.
And he limits his ability to go after a big ticket free agent by bringing in Crowder and tieing up those dollars.
Jae's a good player, but Utah has that in Thabo and O'Neale. Utah needs an impact player at the 4 and another wing who can shoot.

Donovan gets an A-. Amazing year, but he shoots too many 3's at a low percentage and is often a bit reckless (ie. Turnovers) down the stretch. Not throwing shade, just that an A+ means amazing in everything.

Exum has to be either Incomplete or lower. He's had some very good games, but also some sub-par ones.

Rest of grades seem fair enough. Crowder may be a bit high, though. Reminds me of Trevor Booker. We love the attitude and toughness but he cant shoot.
Lindsey drafted a guy who has a chance to be a top 3 Jazz player of all time and you give him a B? And he did it with a trade, so that's like doing a trick but switch footed. You get extra style points.

You are giving the 13th overall pick who is nearly averaging 21 points on a playoff team as the #1 option a A-? Are you high on crack? That's like looking at a picture of the world's most beautiful model and complaining about her elbows being too pointy or some ****.

We were confident as fans the whole season that we could keep him. Anyone acting like it was always a forgone conclusion is rewriting history.

Disagree. I knew for years he would go to Boston or Indiana.

Congrats. Your guess happened to turn out correct.

I'm unimpressed. Hayward did not show interest in going to Indiana. His reasons for going to Indiana would have been completely different from the reasons he went to Boston (fame whore). So it wasn't even a good read of Hayward's personality, despite the accidental hit.

A+ to Thabo for this lol.

Thanks for this thread Fish. Agree with most of your grades. Maybe a B+ for Exum (not to be picky but I would like to see him hitting some off the dribble jumpshots...like in preseason).

And what about Udoh? He was great when Rudy was injured. Extremely limited offensively with his rocky hands but what a player defensively. Cheap contract and great teammate. B+ for him.
Why would you want him to take more lower efficiency shots? I honestly wish the entire team especially DM would take less of those type of shots.
