Reputation Comments, positive and negative

12-07-2010 01:23 PM Thread: The Best Albums of 2010
I feel really bad for you if you agree with teh top two - I'm not sure why though.

Damn my music tastes.

Pretty cowardly stuff, franklin.

And your hidden message

Stickler said:
When you give me negative reputation, intending that I'll think it's someone else, because of the fake "voice" you adopt for the comments (i.e. "u r really....") you might as well start signing it, you ***********. All of the other reputations in my box are positive, and signed. You coward. :)

I've never given you or anyone else negative reputation. Book it and fact check that with Jason or Colton if you can. I also sign all my +rep, and have given you the maximum allowable amount before today. How did your grudge miss all that?

P.S. I love you and want to be your best friend forever. In fact, you're on the verge of being my personal hero.

Wait, wait, wait. What am I doing? I've changed my mind. I don't care about this.

We don't have a disagreement. It is a misunderstanding. You thought I was targeting you. I was not. I made some friendly banter in chat which you took as unfriendly banter. That misunderstanding is obviously my fault.

If you don't have any + from me then it's probably fallen off the list of 10 given. Also, I could have given them before I signed them all, but I doubt it. Or, it could be that I made a dumb wise crack like "very funny, you idiot" and gave +rep. Is it that? Are they green but could be taken negatively? The only other thing is I drink a lot and forget what I've done. But if I gave you drunk -rep then it would probably have nothing to do with a thread at all. It's hard to say sober, but it'd probably be something like "Lincoln didn't like beer, you dolt. Take that damn picture down."

Go fact check it. You're man enough to sign yours, at least some, and for that I respect you. I love you man.

Speaking of trains, I hate it when I go to leave a witty and cutting negative and the box pops up that says, "Thanks for adding reputation to this user... blah blah."

I've gotten that a couple times myself. I think it's someone with zero rep power, so that even though they've plus repped you, you get no points so it shows up grey. Though if someone with zero rep power negative reps you, it still shows up red. At least that's happened to me. Seems strange but that seems to be the case.

I don't think it shows up red if they neg rep you with no Rep points. I had a few gray ones early on that were definitely people trying to neg rep that had no rep power and they just showed up gray but their comments were negative.

Could be wrong though.

They aint nuthin remarkable bout this one, except I think it's a false sig. I don't recall Archie bein a big brownnoser, ya know?

Thread: Scott Layden "Chalk...
Delete your account, hack. -Archie

That really you, Archie?

Update: I guess Archie don't post no more--at least for a while. He sends me a PM:

"You have my word I didn't neg rep you with that "hack" comment. Someone must be signing my name in their reps. What losers. Seriously. My guess from the "delete your account, hack" and mentioning me, it was Vinylone. Dude is a troll. One of the reasons I stopped posting."

If I had to guess, I'd say it was Stickler, the suck-up. Just the kind to forge sumbuddy else's name to avoid responsibility, ya know? Whatever punk dunnit, he even tried to make it look like it was Vinny, in case Archie got axxed. Heh. Probably thinks "rep" is important and would lose self-esteem if I neg-repped him back (I wouldn't, but....)

This just in, from Stickler: "I just really hate you, Hopper. So, so much" Just so happens that that post, over an hour after mine, was accompanied by a "ya gotta spread sum rep round instead of just neg-reppin Hopper alla time" message inserted by Stickler. Could be the punk what dunnit, sho nuff.

Huh? I guess I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, I just happened to notice my name. I'm not the type to sign other people's names to neg-reps. If I have a problem with you, I'll tell you straight up. I think I have a strong track record on that. I have expressed my distaste for you many times, Hopper, almost always to your face, and never with any subterfuge. You are simply the worst. :)

I have no issues with Archie or Vinylone. No way would I do that.

Do ya sign yo name when givin out neg reps?

About half the time. It's the same with positive reps, by the way. Not that it's relevant to whether or not I would engage in trickery with the rep system to try to make other people look bad. Given my experience, I would wager that most users on this site don't sign their neg reps -- or do so only rarely. There are noble exceptions, like Trout.

Typically, I sign the rep -- be it positive or negative -- if I feel the rep serves as a kind of punctuation to some ongoing interaction with that user.

This is the policy I follow as well btw.

In my experience everytime I've signed my rep I immediately get reciprocation in kind. The last neg rep I gave out I signed it and received the next morning a signed neg rep from the recipient with the comment reading only "ditto." In this instance, the "ditto" was functionally meaningless, other than to say "oh yeah, well neg rep on you too."

I'm less than thrilled with the idea that rep in this sense creates itself. I frequently don't sign positive rep unless there's some reason it's meaningful that I'm the one giving it or there's an extended thought attached. I usually sign neg rep when I give it out, but have chosen not to on occasions when I wasn't really involved in the conversation for which the rep was awarded. Otherwise I might just be inserting myself into a conversation I didn't choose to participate in in the first place.

With rep as with all things the best advice always seems to be "remember your love letters, forget your insults. If you learn how to do this, tell me."

I spoze its ALWAZE "meaninful" to sign it when the reason is that it serves to suck up to the owner. Better yet, give the rep, sign it, and then, just to make POSITIVELY SURE your ingratiatin comments are not overlooked (which would defeat the goal) follow it up with a public post, alludin to it. Owners like that, I betcha, especially if ya throws in an obsequious reference to the "infinite rep" of said owner.

I don't get it.

-3 for being an obnoxious douche riggot.

Oh, give me a break, dude. I didn't have any of those motives. I commonly give rep to people when they post newspaper articles or audio interveiws. If I have rep to give, I make it a policy, because I think it contributes something to the board. I have a track record of doing that, too. Jason being the owner of the site has nothing to do with that. Is it your belief that anyone who interacts with Jason does so only because they're suck-ups? He posted something, I responded. Just as I've done to other posters who have posted similar materials. Off the top of my head I've recently done the same thing with prodigy, vinylone, etc.

You are very silly.

How the **** does Hopper have Rep Power of 4? Is this some bizarro world I'm in?

While we're at it, I just watched Inception again. Can someone please tell me how Fisher, in the snow sequence, which is his subconscious, isn't aware that he's infiltrating the fortress with the help of, um, the CEO of his biggest rival? He didn't know who this guy was and it didn't strike him as a bit odd, and he didn't do some double-take like "Whoa, wait? Why is this Asian dude with me? Yeah, um, this seems a bit odd."
