No need to get all Utah about it. After all, it's not like when a person describes something as being "Utah", it has anything to do with the state of Utah, right? Or, did you think that when I used "Utah" to indicate something was inferior, it was an insult to Utah? What a Utah thing to think.

Obviously if it's a part of US culture it must be good. Just like slavery, disenfranchisement of women, persecution of mormons across the plains, the general distrust of jews, and the seizure of Native American land because they're not Christian like us amirite amirite?

You're actually behind the ball on that one. Over the last several years it is extremely uncommon to see heroic figures use homosexual slurs or refer to things as "gay" in popular fiction. If you view entertainment media as a leading edge you're going the wrong direction here.

Well I mean come on Archie, you are defending the use of a term for a class of people in a demeaning way as part of the culture. Hardly uplifting to humanity and all.

Um, how was I defending it, guy? I made a point that people all over say the word "gay" and not just in Utah. Can you read or comprehend with your over sized melon full of nugget juice?

Well I have the benefit of reading lots of other threads you've posted in. I'm not viewing your post with a blank slate of experience.

Simple question: Do you think it's appropriate? Yes or No.

Appropriate? No. I'm not going to allow my kids to use it. I generally don't say it. Never at work, school, etc, but it's not like I've never said it to mean stupid before. I have and probably will say it again sometime. I grew up saying it and pretty much eliminated it from my vocabulary after living in the Bay Area. Offensive? No. Will I go out of my way and tell people they're not allowed to say it? No (unless it's my kid etc) I don't really care. I word means "stupid" in my head when I hear it and that's it.
