Revisiting the Trey Burke trade

Muhammad is also 6'6 and shooting over 50% from the field.

Whoops.

Also, his name is Shabazz.

Also, he doesn't bully kids on Twitter or have D-pic scandals.

Quite possible we screwed up pretty bad.

Shabazz is mediocre. I'd rather have Burke.

The only name that upsets me that we missed out on is Giannis.

That's a 10 million dollar contract right there.
And as long as we are second guessing, in addition to the two draft picks we gave up for Trey looks at the numbers of Sap, Al, JYD, Mo and Foye. I think that will leave me crying tonight.

The thing that scares me is that I don't think those 3 players are all that different right now, but both of the two we lost have a higher ceiling.

Yep. This is the point of the Burke Trade. We could have just stood pat, and had a lineup now of Exum, Hayward, Giannis, Favors and Gobert.

Burke in Quin's system kinda reminds me of how unsuccessful Johny Flynn was in Kurt Rambis' failed Triangle offense in Minny.

Burke gets too much hate, his assists/to ratio is pretty good considering his age and how bad Jazz are shooting.

However, does anyone else feel like phi future despite being 0-16 appears better than the Jazz who have been rebuilding longer? For example Dario Saric just won Euroleague player of the month at 20 years age, being youngest player ever to do so.

Aside from a very select few, this board was backflipping with excitement when we got Burke. It's the most ecstatic I've seen the hivemind of jazzfanz since the DWill days.

That's accurate history, bitches.

A couple years at sub 40% shooting have changed attitudes, I guess. I thought Trey Burke was going to be amazing. Guess I was wrong.

The thing about Trey that concerns me, and I haven't watched the last three games so I might be out of touch, is that he seems to be the same player he was. I don't see how he can improve much to expand his ceiling. Certainly the shooting must and can improve, but he's not growing taller, his arms aren't going to stretch and he isn't suddenly going to become quick.

I think he is who he is going to be. That is why when someone posted in the LAC game thread that Burke would go off for 40 points, I mocked it. He looks to me solid, dependable not explosive or powerful. Trey is like Jameer Nelson, Orlando kept him for all those years and every year the fans or the team talkedm about replacing him.

But the jazz got what they wanted, they got some fan excitement, sold some tshirts, and made it back to the lottery.

Orlando did an amazing tank & rebuild too, faster and better than Jazz or Philly.

Jazz are depressing. 4 years into a rebuild and they look like they could easily be another 4 because of bad choices.

4 years???? This is year two my friend.

Meh.
The whole idea was to get a top-5 pick. Couldn't have done that by keeping the vets. Sap is a FA. Jazz can make an offer if they want. As for Mo and Foye, they're too old. JYD would not be the same player he is had he not worked with Quin in Atlanta. He's the only player I regret not having. If he were on the team, I'd say start him at SF, move Gordon back to SG and have Alec come off the bench.

But it's all good. Jazz are going to get another high draft pick. I think we've finally learned Trey and Enes are not the answer at PG and PF. Jazz can go out and look for another wing and a stretch-4, either via the draft or FA - or maybe even a trade at the deadline.

AS mellow said. the teams led by Sap, Jefferson were not rebuilding years. KOC signed Mo and Foye in an attempt to get to the playoffs. He always called it "retooling." The rebuild started last season by dumping the vets and FINALLY going with the youth (well, except for Corbin deciding Richard Jefferson should have a major role). Perhaps a few more personnel moves could have been made this summer, but I think Lindsey really wanted Quin to have a chance to work with some of the young guys (like he did with DMC) before deciding on their futures with the Jazz.
