Wouldn't mind picking up Richard Hamilton if it meant trading Jefferson (cue everyone ripping on Rip). Supposedly he only has 1 million guaranteed season after next. Also, wonder if they would have been interested in anything like...

Hamilton
Deng
Korver
Salary garbage

For

Devin Harris
Al Jefferson
Garbage

Get excited.

So Bulls would have traded guys who can't guard anyone for even worse guys who can't guard anyone.

Did you think I was going to post a trade that makes us worse? Also, Korver not being a decent defender it one of the worst misconceptions in professional sports. It's too easy to generalize as "white guy who shoots: one dimensional".

So essentially Rip is the big FA we sign next summer since taking back salary for Jefferson precludes us from being players in the FA market (assuming we also sign Millsap and Marvin opts in). No thanks. I'd rather have the jazz go after a couple of younger players with upside for $7-$8M each. Most teams are going to over the cap, meaning all they can offer is the MLE. Jazz have a real chance of swooping in and getting a couple of good players, similar to what happened with Memo and Boozer.

And like slc noted, why would the Bulls even want Al. They have Noah.

No, Hamilton is not the free agent -- Deng is. If we're holding out this idea of caps pace to land something better than Deng then we're shooting heroin.

Sorry. So Deng is FA next year?

No. The post I quoted basically says that we're losing cap space and these guys are therefore our 'free agents'.

Sorry.
Anyway we're talking about a trade that can't happen any more.
So I'll quit before I get further torched.

It would happen if I were GM. I'm beefing up my CV before I try to get my foot in the door.

Yes, that was indeed my point. You take on any longer-term salaries in a Jefferson trade and that essentially becomes your FA signing(s).
Preferably you trade Jefferson for junk expirings + picks. Then you still maintain that cap space next summer.
Or, you get a player like Marvin Williams: short-term, relatively modest salary. A player with either some upside left, or at least not on the decline. Very low risk and we'll definitely have a chance of re-signing him if he works out.

What's your CV?

Slightly different term for resume. I didn't type resume because I'm on my phone and can't spell it right, so I'll resume defending my trade.
