What's new

Ricky Rubio / Eurobasket

Ricky just drove right to the basket... had the layup WIDE OPEN... and passed to the corner... then missed a 3. Perfect encapsulation of his game in one possession.

Guess he though team needed a 3 being down 20. Forget how weak Spain is at the wing position for this tournament. No Llull, Fernandez, Claver, or Abrines. 3rd place is not to bad right?

Wow Slovenia will have their first major competition medal ever. Amazing. If somebody will not take Doncic at 1 they will regret it for life.

Huge props to Igor Kokoskov. That team is coached superbly... it's especially striking when compared to some of the horrendous coaches for other teams in the tournament.

Kokoskov should be somewhere around the top of names for future head coaches in the NBA.

I don't think so... he does that regularly. He sees ghosts around the rim and instead of simply finishing there he passes it.

To be fair, a corner 3 by some players is better than a wide open layup by Ricky Rubio.

Does Igor get a gig in the NBA this year?

I hope not. We need someone to convince Dončič to say he won't work out or play for any team but the Jazz. Then we can trade our 24th pick and Alec Burks to Orlando for him on draft night.

It will be hard to keep Kokoskov still as a Jazz assistant after this Eurobasket. He probably deserves something more.

Hey, now Rubio can come to SLC and work out with the rest of the guys.

Edit: Nevermind. I guess there's also a 3rd place game.

He may want to play with Dragic though. But yeah, he would fill void left by Hayward nicely.

I understand why Rubio is a bad shooter.

No idea how he manages to be so awful at layups and having no floater game at all.

He's a poor leaper these days, or unwilling one at least. With so many wingspan freaks in the NBA these days they're able to recover and easily contest or block him.
Not sure about the floater. Maybe he is just more confident he'll be able to drive all the way and make a successful outlet pass to the corner.

Hopefully Jazz staff can work on a floater with him and his finishing.

That isn't the reason why. There are plenty of poor leapers who are excellent, or at least average, finishers in the paint and at the rim. It's not like Rubio is slow either. There are no reasons why he should be so bad in that area. And Rubio himself has an advanced wingspan ratio. He never officially measured in the combine, but he reportedly has a 6'9 wingspan. It's not like it's a Trey Burke situation where there are any obvious physical limitations.

I don't know if we can keep him for much longer. Head coaching jobs will be incoming sooner rather than later, IMO. People are starting to notice him and what he's doing...

Seems like his players love him too(seems like Dragic was considering retiring from the National team):
