What's new

RIGHT NOW - 76ers

They only had one guy averaging over 10 before MCW got back. They should have picked up Beasley to get some buckets for them. He wouldn't have hurt the tank much and probably would make them slightly more appealing for their fans while they wait these crap years out. It's going to be a long wait unless they get some good free agents rolling in. Even if they hit on a couple of their draft picks and even if Embiid's injury issues come around.

Remember how bad OKC was? Philly is going to be ok. Why pick up a washed-up vet to just delay the development of the young players. Wasn't that our complaint about Corbin? Was Utah better off by picking up RJ to get minutes over a player who is actually going to be with the team in the future? Yes, it will be a long couple of years, but I think Noel, Embiid, Wroten, MKG and McDaniels is a pretty good core. Add a top-3 player this year and they're good to go, supplementing with vets when it's time to start pushing for the playoffs in a couple years.

I suspect Mark Cuban asked his players do to him a solid and really stay focused to make a point against tanking. Showing other owners more vivid how shameless tanking will hurt the league.

And where is the line between rebuilding and tanking?

Sorry, I see a Philadelphia franchise committed to their young players, and refusing to outbid other teams for mid-tier FA's who would play in front of those youngsters. After the butt-kicking they took in Dallas, they came back and almost won at Houston.

Philadelphia got something for their veterans at the trade deadline; Utah just let theirs walk without getting any compensation. Which is the smarter team?

Exactly. As long as games aren't being lost on purpose, then shameful tanking/smart rebuild is just a matter of perspective. There's nothing wrong with tearing a team down when you reach time to rebuild. There are no rules about having to try to build around mediocre players. There is no nobility in a slow rebuild.

Utah.

Philly's team is awful and this experiment isn't going to work.

What's the difference between shameless tanking and acceptable tanking? I'm curious where people think that line is drawn.

The thing is revenue sharing. Philly is the 3rd/4th/5th biggest market in the league and contributes NOTHING. They sport a team that couldn't win a BO5 vs a EuroLeague quarterfinalist and would prolly lose 3/10 games vs EuroCup final round teams.

Philly's games are so distastefully bad that it also causes other teams to charge less for the Philly games because no one cares to watch them.
If you're this openly tanking that hurts the league's revenue and that's why Cuban is pissed. I mean there's other tanking candidates. But you know they build culture and preserve illusion that's good for both the system and the game itself. Other tanking campaigns had the goal to be bad. This one's goal is to be THE WORST. That's the problem.

Your problem is you seem to think their core is worth building around. I'm not seeing it. There's been lots of trade rumor talk over MCW over the years, so Philly might not even like him also. 90% of these guys they are "developing" won't be around in a few years. Where's Philly's Kevin Durant, Westbrook, Harden since you wanted to make that comparison? The talent levels they are working with are worlds apart.

Kinda like how GS was stupid and now they have a losing culture they can't shake.

No, kind of like how their team is laughably devoid of talent outside of 3 players. Hard to develop those 3 pieces when you can't even play NBA level basketball. The Warriors tanked, especially at the end, but never like this.
