What's new

RIP George Steinbrenner

I understand that, but I still don't think he is the most important or most influential guy in American sports over the last 35 years. Do you?

The most? I don't know. Haven't thought through other options.

More influential than the ones you listed? Yeah.

You listed athletes who are iconic but who had very little influence in any structure of change of behavior within their sports. You take Lance Armstrong out of the picture, for example, and this year's Tour De France would probably play out almost exactly the way it is right now. A case could be made that Jordan is an exception. But if you're talking about long-term influence on a sport as a whole...none of these guys are really in the picture. What exactly did Michael Phelps influence, besides the bulge in your pants?

In any case, I feel awkward having gone off-topic here. Back to your mom.

I don't know why when I try to have a discussion people have to speak down and be such condescending twats. I mean, I get if you don't agree with me, but don't act like what I'm saying is totally irrelevant and not bother to explain. YB85, at least explained after coming off with the same tone. Freaking hose humpers, I tell ya.

Um, Michael Phelps is probably the greatest Olympian of all time. Do you know how many people watched him during the Olympics? You don't think he's influenced anyone?

Do you ever go to the Legacy Center?

Sorry if I didn't take the time to explain to you what could have been discovered by yourself in a matter of three minutes. Seriously, if you still have read up on Miller and don't get how he was that influential, I don't know what else to tell you. He has transformed sports for better or worse in about as monumental a way as can possibly be done. I'm not saying he should be #1 on the list but he's gotta be top five in the last 35 years.

True man, I never thought of that. He got a bunch of kids to start swimming.

KOC, would you consider any of those who I listed to be in the top 5 or even in the top 10 most influential and important people for American sports over the last 35 years? Border, do you?

You just answered your own question.

I actually think you're being serious, too.
