What's new

Rip Hamilton

Hamilton is on a horrible contract and will produce much like Bell would. Better offensively, worse defensively.

Terrible idea to get Hamilton.

Hamilton's offense compared to Bell's is like Deron Williams to a 12-year-old female Jr. Jazz player.

The defense gap is not quite so.

Hamilton makes 12.5 this year, 12.65 in 11/12, 12.65 in 12/13 (9 million guaranteed.) He'll be 33 in 2 weeks. If the Jazz are really desperate, they'll move AK for Rip and get TMac thrown in. That saves in the neighborhood of 8 with the tax included. Then the spin is Hamilton starts next to CJ, TMac becomes the new leader of the 2nd unit, Bell still plays over Haywood who gets mothballed. I would hate this move, but I'm so desperate to get Bell's minutes cut I'd almost accept it. Of course, knowing Jerry he'd start Bell and Rip.

If you go Rip, Tmac, and filler you can make it work for AK. I doubt pistons go for it even though Hollinger predicts pistons gain 1 win and Jazz lose 1. Jazz can save 2+mil in salary and another 2+ in luxury tax. I doubt the Pistons would bite though. I think a straight up Okur/Rip would be a great trade for everyone. We get a SG and the pistons get a center to help out Ben Wallace. Then as Stern has already said we could then try to move AK for a Center plus cap relief.

I would much prefer we did something like this as opposed to last year when we just started giving players away. (Brewer & Maynor)

Jazz fans tend to obsess over players that used to be good or have at one point in their careers, burned us.

Corey Maggette, Jeff Foster, and Rip Hamilton are usually the targets.

Unfortunately, the Jazz fans that are making these outrageous trade ideas haven't paid attention to the league.

Rip Hamilton the last two years has been shooting like crap. Worse than his rookie year. The reason? Mileage. He's 33 and has played a lot of minutes.

Jazz fans should look up the stats. He and Raja are shooting nearly identically in every aspect.

If we're not happy w/Raja's shooting, then why the hell will we be happy paying big time money for years and years to shoot the way that Raja's shooting?

If the Jazz trade AK ('s expiring) for Rip, they'd better be giving us picks too. No one wants Rip. No one wants that contract. They've been trying to straight up dump him for a long time and no one will bite.

The only way the Jazz should do it is if it's Bell and Memo. Bad contracts for bad contract.

Worst contract, 3 years 37+ mill remaining, Detroit kind of screwed themselves, trade Chauncey but keep overpaying Rip through 2012/2013. genius.

I think Memo and Raja are just terrible. I'd love for them to both be gone. Maybe we could just give them to Detroit?

Memo for Rip and nothing else. Rip could rip very soon. You also have to understand that there is a reason why the pistons would rather pay him millions then pay him. Rip could greatly help jump shooting off screens, and add a "name" to the roster. I see no other use for him.

Simple question to the author of this thread.... Have you looked at Rip's contract?

Indeed. I'd love to have Rip but not at his price. If he were allowed to renegotiate a contract after the trade that would be one thing. There is no way the Jazz can take on that type of payroll right now.

For that price I'd rather have Iguodola. Sixers have Turner and might be willing to move Iguodola for AK's expiring contract + Hayward or Evans. Doesnt make sense to give a 12-13 mil/yr contract to a 33-yr old wing on the downswing of his career, especially with the lockout looming. Maybe we can nab Speights from them too for the right price.

Rip Hamilton would have made sense 3-4 yrs back

The simple question you have to ask is, would this trade affect the final outcome of the season?

Not in the slightest.
