Before you go crazy and say no way. Read what Draft Express said on him in late 2009.

"Gets about half of his offensive opportunities in spot up situations with another quarter coming in transition. Excels in open space. Has solid form on his shot, which features excellent elevation. A solid set shooter whose efficiency plummets when he puts the ball on the floor."

Most players are either good at catch and shoot or shooting off the dribble. He is obviously a catch and shoot player. That is exactly what our wing players need to be good at (I am not going to list all the successful catch and shoot players we have had but it is a lot).
Than you might look at the 2 teams he has played for.......Sixers & Wolves. They obviously have not had good point guard play. He hasn't had anybody to set him up for those catch and shoot opportunities. And playing next to Deron in the Jazz offense would increase his efficiency which the report listed.
He also isn't the best dribbler so I think that is why he does not go to the hoop very often (dribbing ability for wing players isn't something we rely on). But the report on him also listed he is a very good finisher around the rim. In the Jazz offense we all know how many times Brewer would get open layups. This would allow Carney to finish strong at the rim and setting screens for him or if he did the Brewer back cut after setting the screen he could get a lot of easy looks in the Jazz offense.

He has very good lateral quickness and the tools to be a good defender. And because he excels in the open court I think Deron and him running the break would be nice because Deron could get him easy opportunities to finish strong.

I am not saying he is going to help us out a lot. But after watching him play and seeing this report that confirmed some of my thoughts. He obviously would improve in a Jazz jersey. How much? who knows but I think it would be worth it to take a chance on somebody with his athleticism. Sign him for the veterans minimum for 2 years with the 2nd year being a team option.

I think having him play for a winning team for once and playing with a structured offense would increase his productivity and its easily worth the gamble in my opinion.

Somebody here is more than welcome to convince me why we he isn't worth the 1 Million a year though?

Carney and Quincy Douby were first round picks the year we drafted Kosta. They haven't worked out for some reason.

Carney & Douby were drafted in 2006 (Same year as Brewer, Millsap & Dee Brown)

Kosta Koufos was drafted in 2008

Even if they were drafted the same year why would that matter?

My bad, but both were taken in the first round right after Brewer.

Al Jefferson was taken after Kris Humpries in 2004............ Doesn't ever matter where they were taken in the draft. That should never be considered when trading for and signing players.

That draft pretty much should've looked like this:
1- Roy
2- Aldridge
3- Millsap
4- Brewer
5- Thabo

and then they should've stopped there.

Sad that the first 2 and could have been top 3 play for the same team. And they still aren't that good.

I don't know what the minimum on Carney would be but he's better the Jeffers BUT since RThompson was invited to camp I don't think the Jazz are too interested.

Oh ya and I remember JG and Moe liking the way he looks especially his eyes, so I'm sure those two would approve.

Bargnani
Rudy Gay
Tyrus Thomas
JJ Redick
Rajon Rondo
Kyle Lowry
Shannon Brown
Craig Smith (Good for 2nd round pick)
Lean Powe (Good for 2nd round pick until injury)
Ryan Hollins (2nd Round)

It wasn't that bad of a draft.

He's got the hops, but he's got some warts too... "when he wants to..." is always a scary phrase attached to an athlete. So much of team sports is mental; not sure how well he translates coaching into actions on the court. It does sound like he depends too much on his leaping abilty for making plays. There's times when leaping ability is great, other times it gets you in trouble...
Ryan Thompson is more of a well-rounded offensive player from what I've read... We'll soon be finding out!
