Rodney Hood Refuses to Enter Game in Garbage Time

was the friction between Hood and Jazz management just based on the fact he wasn't being utilized as the primary guy or were there other factors ? Did he really think if he forced his way out he'd be used more somewhere else ?
But the thing is, at the beginning of the year, he was the guy. He was meant to step up and fill the scoring void left by Hayworthless and Hill leaving. And even then he sputtered and could only haphazardly produce. Too bad.

Around All-Star break I met up with my cousin and he had a juicy rumor about Hood. He said he has a friend whose brother works with David Locke. This guy had lunch with Locke in Memphis (it was around the Grizzlies game) and Locke complained about Hood the entire time. Essential said Hood wasn't really injured and was refusing to play because he didn't like his role on the team.

I'm not sure I believe it (despite how much I typically trust my cousin's friend's brother), because around that same time Andy Larsen held a twitter chat and mentioned he saw Hood in shoot around and he had a limp. Also, DL said he gave Hood a big hug and told him he loved him during the exit interview. But seeing how Hood reacted last night, there might be something to this story my cousin shared.

I like Hood. Seems like a good guy. I hope he gets his head straightened out and figures out his role in the league.

P.S. I also love Favors, but I'm skeptical he sprained his ankle in game 3. Seemed to me that he walked off the floor just fine.

I like Rodney. I really do. Not sure this is a good look for him heading into free agency.

I expected him to take a step forward this year, but it never materialized. Still think he has great 6th man potential, but I’m not sure that he ever really was going to fit in with Cleveland. Remember how bad Crowder and IT and DWade and DRose all looked before they were traded?

My expectation is that he’s going to get a one year “prove it” deal somewhere and hope to carve out a bench role elsewhere.

Phoenix makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons. Can’t see him ending back up in Utah, but maybe a humbled Rodney Hood (who knows his role) will be a guy that DL and Snyder feel good about.

Looking at things, I don’t see how anyone can look at the Hood/Iso Joe for Crowder deal and decide it is anything other than a huge win by the Jazz. DL continues to shine with deals that feel like they break even (or are losses) in the moment.

Just this past year alone. . .

• Lyles + #24 for Mitchell.
• 2018 first round pick for Rubio.
• Hood/Johnson for Crowder.
• O’Neale off the scrap heap.
• Udoh, Jerebko and Sefalosha for peanuts and non-guaranteed contracts.
• NOT trading Favors at the deadline.

All huge moves made towards building this current team. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

@Ellis269

Here is what's next:

Utah trades nonguaranteed contracts of Jerekbo, Udoh and Thabo to NY for #9 and Noah. NY thinks they can get LeBron and dumping that salary is worth dumping #9.

We find a way to use Burks' expiring, #9, #21 and other minor assets to trade up to get Doncic.

We move Joe to starting PF:
PG Rubio
SG Mitchell
SF Doncic
PF Ingles
C Gobert
Exum, Crowder, Bradley, O'Neale

That core wins 3 titles. At least.

Uhh... You're joking?

Neither of those trades has the tiniest chance of happening in isolation, let alone occuring together.

Why does Rodney remind us of Kirk Snyder?

Rodney believes he’s a starter, he’s not, and he believes obviously he shouldn’t be a garbage time guy. Rodney has gotten in his own way. I like the guy, I feel bad for him, but you get what you give. The list of guys who thought the grass would be greener on the other side and it turned out not being that way is long when it comes to this franchise.

Wow. What a fall from grace for Hood. He's not helping himself at all. Good decision by DL to move on from him and at least get something in return when he did. I doubted how prudent that decision was, but like with most things it seems like DL has had much better information and judgement... And Hood was set to make 50-60M... I have no idea who would give him that money now.

In Hood defense, the Cavs with Lebron would be one of the toughest places to find your grove.

No training
No structure
No role

Regardless he'll probably lose $8-10M/yr on what Utah offered in his extension talks.

I think the contract year is really messing with him... dude seems so anxious. I feel bad for him... someone should take a chance on him. The skills are still there just the financial pressure is really affecting him imo.

I think he may still get the MLE.

Players have looked much worse playing along LBJ this year. Not sure if it’s coaching, ball watching, or just them not being good.

I had hoped this stint had humbled him and maybe we sign him to a bargain deal as our sixth man... it’s clear he’s not yet sufficiently humble.

He’s gone from around 15M a year - to surely at least the mid level - to maybe the mid level- to hopefully the mid level but maybe a one year make good deal.

Rough year... hopefully he looks in the mirror.

I wonder if he has some sort of mental health problem. To me, Rodneys problem has always been between the ears.

He has anxiety hopefully he’s getting help.
