Yikes, sounds like the Jazz might have to give up a minor asset, or take on a multi year deal to get rid of him. Who would have thought it would get this ugly? Actually, never mind, I could have seen this coming I just hoped that it wouldn't. The thing is that Raja was never going to be the best 2 guard at his age on a Jazz team with several stacked up lottery picks. Even If the Jazz didn't draft a 2 guard, there is free agency, and what do you know, the Jazz signed Foye who is younger and better than Raja. His expectations to be a pivotal player on the Jazz are unreasonable, yet he couldn't let go.

A big 3.5 million mistake. Actually, it's only like 1 mil because they still have to pay him most of it even if they buy him out. All they are really out is the roster spot, so I feel for our second round pick if he fails to make the team.
Edit: clarification: Amnesty means paying him the full contract but he doesn't go against the cap, while buyout means they pay a significant amount of his contract to 'go away'

The Jazz aren't over the luxury tax, so amnestying a player doesn't really help. (They still would be on the hook for the full salary.)

How would amnesty have hurt Bell? I thought the advantages of amnesty were that his salary wouldn't count against the cap and that if another team signed him that would reduce the amount we have to pay him.

there is actually zero suspense on this, guys. bell and the jazz have mutually decided there's no future to that marriage. when the exact transaction takes place and for how much money are fairly unimportant details.
he won't be in camp, he won't be on the roster when games start. that's all that really matters, whether they sign the papers tomorrow on october 30.

This is also how I see the situation. It is really in neither camps best interest to see this thing get ugly. Bell will get paid, and the jazz will move on. By all accounts the jazz moved on from him before the end of the season. The guy is not going to play for us again. Thank god.

Exactly. I'm sure the Jazz were avoiding amnesty so they could get a small trade exception for him. Now they have to probably buy him out for the full amount. If I were Raja, I'd hold out too. With no interest by other teams, you want the Jazz to pay you your full salary. It's like getting suspended with full pay.
Bell will NOT be back with the Jazz. That's a guarantee.

I can also see the jazz telling him to stay away from the team. He can sit at home and collect a pay check for all I care.
Let him rot on the bench, and waste a year of his career. If he wants to play hardball let's do it.
They should make him wear a female bear costume and be Mrs Bear. Embarrass the heck out of him until he leaves on his own and doesn't ask for money. Make him go to every single Jr. Jazz event. Never play him a single minute, or dress him. Get him out there selling jerseys and/or popcorn, get him taking tickets at the door, get him a towel he can wave as he "cheers".
Whatever happens, do not allow him on the floor for any reason... well, maybe he can have a mop and clean up sweat on the floor.
