Romney's VP Choice

Funny yet not surprisingly, Framer has suddenly disappeared. LOL

He talked a cute talk, was wrong about everything, was proven wrong, and doesn't have the courage to own it.

Typical of today's GOP, where they demand accountability from others while never admitting their own failures.

The reason people stop conversations with you is you are a mix between a zealot and a schizophrenic.
It's very difficult to have a reasonable conversation, or even a reasonable argument with you... fyi.

I concur. Thriller and northeast, both.

I'm glad we all agree that only VP debates that reaffirm our preconceived opinions are valid.

What a sad retort. I never said it didn't matter. I simply asked a question. Of course my skepticism is implied, but I never took a side. In fact, I couldn't give two **** about which monkey wins the race.

If I was really picking and choosing data to agree with, I could've easily responded to Scat's chosen poll with:

https://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-08-13/ryan-romney-poll/57038326/1

But my point remains, I can find a poll that would prove whatever the hell I want proven, since fluctuations in public opinion can vary greatly from day to day even without manipulating the question to get desired results.

Most polls ain't about gauging public opinion but influencing public opinion, since unprincipled dupes ("swing voters") want to go with what they think is popular sentiment.

As for the importance of debates...when my Newt starting kicking behind in debates he started getting the votes.

Poll bumps at this stage are pretty meaningless. I'm just learning about this guy, but at a glance he passes the sniff test -- charismatic, principled, unlikely to find much scuff on the record. But not too seasoned. He's a good counterbalance to Mitt's cardboard persona, though his 'progressive' ideas on the economy are going to get tested early and often. His ideas about drastic cuts to medicare/medicaid and his rather naive faith in the free market health insurance industry have enormous albatross potential. We'll see how he fares on the big stage as an ideologue.

I concur. Thriller and northeast, both.

Look, I take it as a given that passion counts more than any reasonable argument. If we can't manage to work up a little passion, and disregard reason to some extent, I think we have lost our most basic element of humanity.

If I want a very smart, even intellectual view of the world, I'll go to the Council of Foreign Relations website and read what they have there on almost any subject. But both Thriller and Kicky are worth having in here, passion and all. If they weren't doing what they do in here, I might have have to do it myself.

But progressives are just bad missionaries. It's the whole "we've got to make everybody see it our way, or bust" routine that smells like somebody camped out on the lawn in front of city hall with banners and bullhorns. Ideologues sold out to somebody else's cause, and unable to see their own real interests, that make them easy marks for moderates. Or even conservatives with just as much of a load of ideology.

when entering into a discussion with humans, I don't expect it to be easy "to have a reasonable conversation" or argument. Just deal with their ideas and love the folks that have them.

I never have a problem with an opposing view. I don't even have a problem with being called stupid for my own views. I just hate when people engage you in a conversation, only to ignore everything you say and answer with, "Nuh-uh, you're wrong, because." (and do that over and over)

Looking at you northeast.

Please do not group the two of us together. I think the tactics we use are markedly different.

I would agree.

How is this any different than anyone? Conservative or liberal, they both engage in this exact same tactic, wouldn't you agree?

Just deal with their ideas and love the folks that have them.

One of the biggest problems on this board and in national politics is the lack of fact. Many folks never let facts get in the way of their opinions. Wyden didn't co-sponsor legislation with Ryan, Ryan's plan isn't realistic, that poor girl testifying before Congress wasn't having so much sex that she wanted the government to pay for her birth control, etc. The list goes on and on and on of quotes taken out of context, facts omitted, and stories manipulated and spun to promote someone's particular agenda.

Signed. Kicky has passion but he is not an idiot. He reasonably argues with you and bases his opinions on facts.

Thriller bases his opinion on nothing. If you do not agree with his baseless opinions he has to resort to attempts at bullying and humiliation because he has nothing else to fall back on.

Kicky is a good person to have on the board. Thriller not so much.

I've seen this video posted several times in various places. I'm still trying to figure out what it demonstrates. Is Erskine Bowles someone I should hold in special regard?

PKM I have not ignored you. I've wasted countless hours reading your dumb posts. It's not my fault you rarely make a logical connection between your ramblings and the topic at hand.

Time you are willing and able to waste as you are replying/addressing him.

On his website Ryan lists "Rage Against The Machine" as one of his favorite bands.

He should probably take a closer look at some of their lyrics.

Same with the idiots singing Born in The USA at the Olympics. I trust they have only read the chorus lyrics of that song.

If he gives a "because" doesn't that mean he read what you wrote?

Being wrong before you ever open your mouth is probably the single most annoying thing about humanity.
