Roster Addition Wish List

The possible upside of bringing a guy like Porter into the mix is obvious. But the reality is this front office is not going to bring a guy who is making 25-27million to be the 3rd best player on the team (arguably 4th).

Not gonna happen.

I think OP Jr can play 4 full-time when Rudy is the 5

Might be true... with Jae on the roster he's getting 20ish minutes there so OP or Jae are playing some 3 at some point. If we traded for him Ricky would need to be in the deal unless we waited until January when Favs can be moved.

I believe Favs has a implicit no trade though because he signed a one year deal. Washington may be a place he'd want to go though because he could play center full time and showcase his value (howard is out with pains in his ***).

Gallo is good in theory but his defense would drive us crazy. Just because Gobert protects the rim doesn't mean we can throw some offense no defense guy at PF.

Because when Rodney was healthy and actually tried on defense (he didn't his last year here) he was a useful player. We could use his shooting and Evan is a better ball handler/passer than Hood imo.

Most guys look better with our coaching and system... I think Evan would do slightly better here.
Sure, but he's paid 19 million next year. He's a better passer, but that's about it.

His defense isn't that bad... health is THE concern there.

Clips are actually much better this year defensively with him on court. I assume this has a lot to do with Lou Will not playing with the starters and that they get lit up a bit more when he replaces Beverly or SGA.

OP would be our fifth best player:

1- Joe Ingles
2- Joe Ingles
3- Rudy
4- DM
5 OP Jr.

But in all seriousness if we wait until free agency to sign someone they will be the third best player (maybe) and be paid about the same or more.

Possibly true but we can do a lot better than Otto Porter as Utah's third best player. Namely a guy who has proven #1 or #1a option ability on offense. Porter has never exhibited that ever.

That's not whats going to prevent it.

I'm just not sure that guy comes through FA. I think our "stars" will continue to come from the draft. I think we can get great impact starters in FA... I see OP Jr. as a big impact starter because of fit and position of need.

I'm always blown away by how delusional some people are about our chances in free agency.

Half the league has a spot for a max free agent this summer. I'm an optimist, but I have little to no faith that we can get somebody as good as Porter in free agency.

So what if we overpay? We have Mitchell, O'Neale, Ingles and Crowder on absolute bargain deals this year and next. The 3rd year is a gamble, but the salary cap is ballooning by then and $27 won't be that bad.

Beal is a step above guys like Harris or Middleton. We would never get someone like him through free agency, and they are rarely available through trades in fire sales.

I know we aren’t doing it. But I love the fit and would give up whatever it took to get him, he’s exactly what we need to take some of the scoring load. And we’d have him for awhile.

Yeah... I mean if Allen, couple firsts, and salary relief is good enough that'd be a good deal.

Side bar... we have a trade exception that we could just absorb Tomas Satoransky... If we got Otto I might try to get him too. I think he's really under-rated. There's some Joe Ingles diamond in the rough intrigue there for me.

I honestly think he's a step below, especially considering he's bit redundant to Mitchell.

for sure.

Looking at Tomas a little more... bigger guard... started 30 games last year and averaged 10/6 assists/4.5 reb. in 30 minutes. He shot 53/51/90 and so his TS% was bananas. Very low turnover player. He doesn't get many 3s up... low usage guy. Not sure if we could ramp up the usage.

I think that would work next to DM. Possibly might not be enough creation. Not sure how much of a defender he is but he has some length for a PG.
