What's new

Rudy 5th in DPOY award voting.

I think Rudy is the best defensive player in the league by a mile...but I'm really happy that he got screwed on this award. Rudy has a huge chip on his shoulder and this is only going to add to it. He is probably going to have that tweet on a poster or something. I predict him coming out next season with a venagance to win both DPOY and MIP

He might win MIP this year. But for him to win it next year, he would pretty much have to instantly jump to Olajuwon's level of performance.

Jordan is horribly overrated defender. Haberstroh had a great piece about it...

DeAndre does not have half the defensive brains Rudy has. Rudy said the Jazz are a playoff team after the Allstar break and he said that he deserves Most Improved Player award. Not putting his name and his team's name up on board because of the late push will most probably boost his hustle level up next season.

The best part for me was that he told the exact needs for his game to develop to next year that he will work on this summer. He is 100% aware what he needs to do.

He also said that he will play NT in Eurobasket. It starts at the end of August.

I hope he gets blanked and finished low in point total like he did in DPOY. Feed that fire.

It doesn't seem to me that Gobert is the kind of player who will grow complacent because he won a minor award early in his career.

Agreed. He will compete and hustle relentlessly. Sure there will be a bigger fed ego compared to the sophomore, but it feels like he will always be there to protect his name.

Jordan anchors a team that is...... 15th in defense. Clearly not all that great. Of course, Davis is also on a ****ty defensive team but narrative over results seems to be the thing with awards.

This would be so epic. I haven't seen anybody cry on an NBA court since LHM. Who would you most like to see sob next? Kanter might be a good choice.

Green should have won it, but Rudy has a bigger defensive impact and should have come in second only because he wasn't starting the full season. But for the time Rudy was starting, no one in the league had a bigger defensive impact than Rudy. Again though, Green was a beast all year. I can't believe Leonard got it over him.

The formula for next year is simple:

Rudy plays an entire season with starter minutes
Jazz make the playoffs

Rudy wins DPOY award in a landslide...

Yall want proof Im right about Gobert?

He just tweeted that he can't wait for next year and posted the top 5 for DPOY.

What nonsense. I understand Gobert not winning it. He was a complete unknown until half way through the season, and he ended averaging only 26 mpg. While Leonard is a great defender, he missed too many games, and haven't done anything special on the defensive end this season. Green on the other hand is the main reason why GS could switch on everything, as he can guard every position on the floor. He is the pivot around which their league-leading defense revolves. He should have won.

Leonard has been great on defense this year. Just phenomenal. He changed games for them. I would've been good with either one.

Should have been Jordan or Davis. Odd that Gasoline who won last year wasn't even in Top 5

Imagine how good Indiana would be if they had Kawhi AND Paul George. The two best two way wings on one team.

Aren't both Draymond and Kawai RFAs this summer?

Do the jazz go crazy all in on the defense and try to steal away one of those two? Think of the defense of Gobert, favors, Kawai, Hayward and Exum.

And add Dwight howard to the crying list. He is unstable, insecure, thinks he is king and beat his child.

No,
1) What makes you think EITHER of those two would sign an offer sheet with Utah?
2) The offer sheets would be matched, especially given the 2016 cap increase (max next season is CHEAP for those guys in 2016). Leonard is the best player on SA now and Green is one of GS's top-3.
3) Jazz have to gut their depth to do it and then have to wait for the contracts too be matched before they can pursue other FA's.
